Yup, Islanders beat them in 6. There were 3 key players in that series for the Isles that led them to victory: John Tavares, Travis Hamonic, and even Alan Quine.

Flames have 2 of the 3 this year.

If you want to be considered good, you need to have some semblance of consistency. The Panthers are always a bit of a tease...they have good promising players, show a flash here or there, but never seem to be able to get it together for any sustained period of time.

They've made the finals as many times as the Flames have in the last quarter of a century. And I think the Flames have been way better but depends on your perspective.

Here is one way those escalators work: There are bonuses for things like winning one round, going to the Stanley Cup Final, winning it all, etc. If you reach a bonus, not only do you get that payout, but the amount is added to your base salary for the remainder of your contract.

Coaches get a lot of praise when things go well so IMO it makes sense they would get paid relative to what players are getting seeing a good coach is as integral to team success as the players are.
