I can understand the coach because he's in front of the players every day but firing Chiarelli won't change a thing on ice for the Oilers. Once he's fired then the bulls eye will simply shift to Nicholson.

Pursuming he signed Koski and made the trades and waivers you stop him from doing that with your first round pick at the trade deadline. It also lets the new GM get ready for the draft. It also means they won’t be doing a proper GM search and instead will be promoting from within.
