Maybe Peters wants to rotate in all the guys on a regular basis? He may also be tweaking his roster vs specific teams. I don't think Czarnik is in the doghouse.
Czarnik looks to be in the coach's doghouse. What's up with him? He looked so good in pre-season and looked like a huge steal and due for a breakout this season. Has he been horrible during games? Not good in practice?
I don't think he's looked horrible but as a skill player, he needs to finish and he hasn't.
It's the same with Dube and Neal. All 3 of these guys have had great scoring chances but are hitting posts, crossbars, or firing wide or right at the goalie. It's obviously getting to these 3 guys as they are all pressing.

No excuses, but I think the huge turnover in the summer combined with a wholesale coaching change has more to do with the Flames's bi-polar play in October than anything else. Regardless of what coaches pronounced publicly or what fans hoped for there was always going to be an adjustment period. I think the realistic expectation was that the adjustment wouldn't be so painful as to take the team out of playoff races, and here we are.
That is an excuse though. And to me, it in no way explains how they failed to show up in NY, Montreal and then at home to Pittsburgh.
We have seen that kind of erratic play from this club many times before so all I can do is hope it is behind them at this point.

So, please explain then to me how you would distinguish an "excuse" from a "reason"? I explicitly said the turnover is NOT an excuse because the team cannot nor should they depend on this to excuse their poor performances. But this stuff happens—it's something the Flames have to deal with, and I think the erratic differences in the quality of their play we have seen this season suggests that it's something they are possibly dealing with. Are we now simply expected to ignore the innumerable factors which will effect how a team performs from one game to the next, or from one part of the season to the next?

Completely agreed, theres no way they have Peters system hammered down yet, even with their China games.

I'd say out of the three, Czarnik has been the least impressive. Dube and Neal are around the net a lot. Czarnik uses his speed fairly well, but he's been on the outside a lot.
I haven't been a fan of Janko this year at all. Not sure what he's done to be playing ahead of Czarnik. Maybe they are switching those two to make them more hungrier when they get in the lineup. Having said that, I'd go with Czarnik personally.

Yeah Jankos effort level is very strange this season. Just looks sluggish and not engaged. He hasn't really responded to the games he's been scratched either. Not what you want to see from a young firinge nhler trying to solidify his spot.

Jankowski should be better, based on his tools. Peters is perhaps thinking he should react like Frolik. In fact, by all common sense, Jankowski should be more motivated by a benching than Frolik, who is (a) paid a lot anyway and (b) probably pretty confident he's coming back into the lineup. Jankowski has a lot riding on this time of his career, and he's being pushed really hard by Dube and Czarnik.
I find it strange tho that outside of the season opener in Van, our Flames appeared to be skating well, forechecking well, the game in Nashville where they played such a complete game...seemed like, outside of a game or two they were looking like Pacific division leaders, and then poo.....
Not sure wtf happened. Did they get alien abducted the night before the Habs game and never been the same since?
Is it a Peters Defensive zone system thing??
The amount of quality scoring chances against is staggering
Janko looks effortless even when he's playing well though.
I'm not really looking at perceived effort, because I agree that some players (Hamilton, Hanifin, etc.) are smooth and don't look like they are trying as hard, and some use their brain as much as their feet (Monahan, for example) and still are in a good position offensively.
My issue with Janko is that he's big, with a long reach, can skate well, and has good hands (he has a bunch of scoring tools) and isn't using any of that - he doesn't drive the net much, he isn't distributing the puck very well, and he's not hip deep in net front scrums to try and bang one in.
