You stand by your assertion that on the basis of a pretty average twelve year period the Flames NEVER get off to a good start? This seems like a foolish point upon which to fall on your sword since it is clearly patently false.

On paper our team has been getting all the credit in the world.
Even the media has been buzzing about it....which is weird and seems phony.
I mean we aren't the Oilers and we don't have McSaviour so we still cannot plan the parade route for winning the cup.
But I'd like to see us be better than a 500 team in the first 10 if that isn't too much ask.
I'm not comfortable with a few things though starting with our goalies.
I want to be excited but I don't see The Smith and Lack combo getting it done.
Also, scoring. Where is it coming from? Preseason has shown nothing and sure those games don't matter but is it really because guys aren't trying ???
If we can play good team defence in front of any goalie we'll be okay but I see Gulutzans system being hard for this team to execute again for some reason.
I just want the season to start already and haven't been this impatient about hockey starting ever.

10-0. That’s both the Flames record in the first ten games, and also the score in the first game vs Edmonton.

I really don't expect a whole lot from this group on the season, so I certainly don't expect a ton in the first 10 either.
8-9 points is my guess.
I hope I am am pleasantly surprised and entirely wrong.

Smith's GAA will be 3.50; timely saves and lots of offence.
Jagr scores at a goal/game pace for the first 10, mostly on the PP. Flames lead NHL in PP and are top ten in PK. JG with 16 points.
Haha! In other words totally realistic expectations.

I am going to pass on the predictions but I am little surprised at the number of people having us losing to Edmonton. There was a point in time the Flames absolutely refused to lose to Edmonton. Seems either the team has relaxed that standard and accepted losing to the oilers or we have too much pride to put up a fight.

7 out of 12 years has been 50% or better record. 3 of those years are actually over 60% win percentage.
So I think Textcritic's point stands pretty good even if he only used one year to make his point. 3/12 starts have been good, 4/12 starts have been weak and 5/12 starts have been pretty average. Hard to say they NEVER get off to a good start.
|
Actually what you have said is that they routinley have average to weak starts. By your own examples above they only get off to good starts 3/12 times. Like I said in response to textcritic's initial response, never is too definite, fine fair point, but practically never (25% by your numbers) get off to a good start. So yea. Anyways, if your honestly just hearing for the first time ever that the flames are routinely bad out of the gate, your heads been in the sand.
As an aside, thanks for putting together the stats as you have.

My guess is a modest 5-4-1. Not great enough to truly feel good, not bad enough to get in the downs (except for the few "sky is falling" folks), with one we probably should have deserved to win but lost in there.

Well, they’re just going to play how they play. Play out the games until the season ends, and the future ends..
Might get lucky and win a few.

Don't care. Just want some ju ju breakers for once.
-Win the first game of the season
-Definitively win the home opener
-Shed the Disneyland Curse with their first regular season win in regulation at the Honda Centre since 2004. So I don't have to hear their fans chant "you can't win here!" *clap clap clap-clap-clap

Your fun. You probably captivate the room at social functions, taking exception to figures of speech, exaggerations, and the way people communicate. Good schtick, never change.

In any case I fully expect to see a CP meltdown after the first bad stretch, so sometime before Christmas.
