Couldn't even get set up on a 5 on 3. What a joke.

Line change? Wtf

missed too many men

Backlund should have had a penalty shot

5 on 3 was brutal

Feel bad for Elliott

Thought Hamilton had a bad game

If I fly to Anaheim and burn the Honda Center to the ground, will you guys start a CP gofundme to bail me out?

We had to show more composure when we had the 5 on 3. 1:14 and we never got set up once. That and the line change cost us this game.

Yep, I think we'd be looking at OT with a chance for either side if it weren't for that awful mistake.

Or maybe the Flames hold their lead.

Infuriating and encouraging at the same time. They weren't outclassed, they shot themselves in the foot. This is gunna be a series.

Experience vs. lack of composure. It happened to the Oilers. It happened to us. Our teams are young, and we played teams that will expose mistakes, and take advantage of 7 power-plays. Even-strength, we were fine....aside from mistakes. It was a waste of a winnable game until the line-change and penalty-fest after that.

Wasn't encouraged about their chances by that game. Stupid hockey, Wideman effect in obvious full force and a hideous five on three. I guess if the object is to lose by a respectable score they can manage.

Terrible line change was the momentum changer. Dammit...... Also that 5 on 3 was their big chance to take this game back over and they blew it. Getzlaf was huge on that PK (god it's painful to even type that).

Also, f*** Kesler and his smug face.
Reload and get ready for game 2. Flames need to come out of Anaheim with a split.

Look the Flames deserved their fate.

A major mental error took the winds out of their sails.

Too many penalties and while some were soft based on what the Ducks were doing they have to keep their discipline.

When you have a 5-3 with 3 minutes left, you have to go hell bent for leather.

Our better players have to make a difference in the game, Johnny was a disaster out there. He has to be way better.

However.

The refs were atrocious tonight mainly because what the Flames were called for the Ducks were allowed to get away with.

I'm steaming over them not adding time on the clock.

Frankly if this same officiating crew skates out for the next game the Flames should clear the ice. That was a joke.

On the positives for me, I think we've closed the margin on this team, we probably deserved a better fate in a lot of ways.

Elliot was stellar, just simply stellar.

The Flames know what they're up against, they need to learn from this and move on. They had their chances.

Dammit, Anaheim is beatable. Going to need a more consistent, disciplined effort though. Too many mental lapses and dumb penalties. The 5 on 3 at the end was painful.

Second chance at a split on Saturday!

Gulutzan out coached big time. Why was he rolling 4 lines down a goal in the third? Hamilton not out on the 5 on 3 to start? I know Brodie had a good keep in on the first goal but come on, you obviously put Hamilton out there.

People blaming the refs are delusional. Calgary played undisciplined and they didn't capitalize on a 5-3 with 2 minutes left. No timeout and Brouwer on the power play unit 1 is totally inexcusable. Brutal coaching.

Line 1 for Calgary was terrible, they shouldn't have even been on this ice in general let alone pairing them with an AHLer in Brouwer. Unbelievable ending. Awful coaching.

Can we now end the Brodie experiment on the powerplay? He pretty well killed off a long 5 on 3 all by himself.

They played good enough to win but were undisciplined and made poor decisions. Sure the Ducks were going down easy all night but the Flames gave the officials excuses to make calls. Can't blame the officiating at all. Wasted a fantastic night from Elliott.

My goodness, the sheer hatred on this board confuses me. They were ridiculously close to tying a game late in the third in a game they had no business tying.

You don't win or lose a series in Game 1. I dunno, I just can't get my head around jumping off bridges or saying BS like "I refuse to watch Game 2." Get a life.

They just aren't as good. Love the Flames, but they are the inferior team by a massive margin. And Johnny is invisible against big physical teams, and always will be. A boy in a mans game.

The fact they get killed every time in Anaheim has nothing to do with 'magical voodoo curses'. It's simply they have been an inferior team for the last decade.
