A few things from the interview:
1) How PC is our society when a person who shoots from the hip like Burke, is chastised because of his honesty and admissions of poor assessments? We all make mistakes at work. Most of us can hide them. They aren't public, but they are still mistakes. It's called being human. I wrongly assess people all the time and people wrongly assess me.
2) He's right about Backs. Everyone thought he was a pure scorer, like Sven. But when that didn't happen he became something else. That's on Backs, not Burke. Burke was right. It was Backs that changed.
3) Players change. As much as Backs changed, Staj did the same. He was a soft, scoring centre when we got him. Now he's a tough little so-and-so as our 4th line C.
4) We need to show patience. We are finally being rewarded with Backs. I think Ferland has struggled to find his way and maybe finally has. Or perhaps the coaches have finally seen what he can be? I am very confident the Flames will keep getting better and better as Bennett finds his way, as Tkachuk becomes a superstar, and as Curtis Lazar finds his way too.
5) What a great job Tree did of tightening up our defense. Absolutely brilliant. I think the Lazar move was fantastic too. Although I wasn't a proponent of the Hartley firing, I will borrow a Burke-ism and admit I was wrong.
