The penalty for tampering is probably a hefty fine.
Its funny I think it was in 1999 that the Blues lost their first round pick for the Scott Steven's affair.

Scott Stevens was 1990, not 1999.

News UpdateInsider trading:

on Subban:
McKenzie - these are serious talks, not just listening because of the NTC kicking in and seeing what they can get
will move Subban for the right deal
LeBrun - there is a time issue with this as some of the offers involve picks for tomorrow's draft
Habs may want 5th OA from Canucks to draft Dubois
Dreger - asking price is high
unlikely Canucks pull trigger
Oilers would need to move 4th OA and perhaps Draisaitl - Oilers don't want to move drai
one of Hall, RNH, or Eberle would need to be moved out to afford Subban

At this point, its probably irrelevant that the Oilers don't want to move Draisaitl, The Habs would hold pretty much all the cards if the Oilers want Subban.
But it would be awesome if the Oilers bought him in and had to move out a Hall or RNH or Eberle on top of Drasaitl to bring in Subban, because it would really kill their forward depth.
And I doubt that anyone is going to take the RNH or Eberle contract without sending a large chunk of dollars back.
Please Edmonton do this deal, because when McDavid comes up for his 10 million dollar bump, it completely fubars your franchise.

I think this would be a mistake for the Habs. Sometimes the best move is the one you don't make.

I'm shocked Bergevin and Therrien still have jobs in Montreal.

If your the oilers and its your first plus Draisilt for Subban I think you do it. RNH is not the best number 2 center but serviceable. Doing that trade would give them a top pairing defensemen for a 2nd line center and what likely becomes a 2nd line winger.
It fills their biggest need from a position of there biggest depth.

Hah I almost got taken by a fake Bob McKenzie announcing a trade to Oilers.

It would be pretty hilarious if Habs ownership chooses Therrien over Subban in whatever silly battle of wills they've got going there.

Nick Kypreos @RealKyper
Hearing #Canadiens Bergevin price remains too high in his bid to trade Subban. Moving up @2016NHLDraft for crack at Dubois remains priority

Did he push back the time for his presser again? What's going on?
