Never been a huge Granlund fan and posted earlier in the season wondering if the Flames could get a mid round pick for him this season. He's a bit jack-of-all-trades master of none type player. Not good enough to be a center in the NHL doesn't look good at winger either.
Shinkaruk or Emile Poirier? Why not both.

We win this simply because of the reaction from the Vancouver faithful. Good job BT.

Really didn't want Shinkaruk during the 2013 draft. Not a huge Granlund fan but am surprised that's all it took.
It'll be interesting to see who develops the best out of Shinkaruk, Poirier or Klimchuk.

Whats wrong with wanting to make teams regret not drafting you? I hope he makes the Canucks regret trading him

Shinkaruk has 21 goals and 39 points in 45 AHL games with Utica this season. #Flames

What makes you say Shinkaruk is worse offensively?

Calgary boy. I remember that draft day and the guys on the Fan 960 were hoping the Flames would take Shinkaruk as their second pick in the first round - but the Flames took Poirier instead. So they finally get their wish.

Utica's leading scorer with 39 points in 45 games this season, and 10 power play goals.

Meh. Never thought much of Granlund.
Shinkaruk is maybe a little more offensively gifted.
Pretty apathetic toward the move.

Mixed emotions. Played against him growing up (he was obviously MUCH better than I was). Met him at Cowboys once and actually seemed like a really nice guy, although I've heard stories that he's a bit of a DB. I liked Granlund, but this is a pretty good return for him.

Honestly Granlund wasn't going to beat out Backlund, Monahan or Bennett for a spot. Might as well trade him for a LW prospect with more potential.
I like this trade.

Most likely call up now? Or is Grant back?

I've been saying for several years how I'm glad Flames didn't pick him, attitude issues etc. This is weird.

And well, Shinkaruk was bad last season and the year before. He's had a good season this year. Things change.
Though I've still heard he's a jerk.

I am just happy since they seemed unwilling to play Granlund at wing, and IMO he wasn't very good at center.
2 more years of Waiver eligibility for Shinkaruk vs Granlund is a win too - that becomes very valuable when trying to fill out a roster.
