If he is available and Edmonton isn't putting everything on the table not named McDavid then they're more poorly managed than we ever could have imagined.
I sort of feel like Subban isn't on the trade block, though. This seems like one of those situations where someone in the media read into the public call out by Therrien and has turned it into, "Subban is going to be traded." That's not to say he can't be traded. Maybe Montreal gets an offer before the deadline that they simply can't refuse whether or not they had plans to trade him.

I like PK as a player but his contract is ridiculous. That's why I'd stay away from a Flames perspective. The Oilers should be all over him if he really is available.

Yeah, hes on 'Franchise Player' money on a team where he would not be the Franchise player.

For some reason I just don't see them trading him. The guy lost an edge trying to make a play, the other team takes it down to their end and scores, then we're hearing he's being traded? That team has bigger issues than PK and I don't think any player from the Oilers is going to help them become a consistent playoff team.

How much cap space does Subban take up if someone trades for him today?

There is really only one player where the fans in Montreal don't burn the Forum down given what P.K. has done for the city. Perhaps two.
McDavid or a signed Stamkos. A hockey trade with pieces really wouldn't work.

The improvement we would see by replacing Hamilton with Subban is far too small to justify giving up additional assets and increasing our cap hit by over $3 million - money we will need to pay for Bennett and mid-pair defencemen that we do need.

What? The difference between Hamilton and Subban is vast. Subban is a Norris trophy/Olympic defenseman. Hamilton is the Flames currently getting less ice time than Russell
Klimchuk is a throw in.
The 1st pick is the real risk - and that is all based on the lottery at this point.

Perfect example of how the media latches on to one little thing and blows it way out of proportion. Here are the tweets that started it:

Did the rounds to find out if Subban is on the market. One team executive said "his name has come up". @TVASports

Not suggesting #Canadiens will trade Subban. Just saying one team confirmed #Habs are "gauging the market".

This is basically saying "Someone asked the Habs about Subban and offered a package". And now suddenly its a media ####storm about Subban getting traded.

The difference between Subban in our #3 role (or Brodie or Gio) and Hamilton is not vast. Any way you put it, the suggestion is to pay a lot of money for a top pair guy to be a #3 defenceman when we already have a #3 defenceman on a value deal. It's a proposal to acquire a player we don't need and put someone in a role beneath their capabilities.

Giordano, a pick, and a prospect for Subban.
Would allow Brodie to be on his natural side. I think they'd be a great pairing.

Brodie doesn't like being on his natural side.

So many problems with this idea.
Firstly it undervalues Gio and his leadership role with this team.
Secondly - PK's contract. Pairing PK and Brodie would only remind Brodie every night that he is playing for 50% of his real worth.
Thirdly - don't want to see the Flames get into the habit of trading first round picks.

Yeah, IMO the Flames don't need another top 4 RHD, they need a top 4 LHD to play along side Hamilton. Brodie is just fine on the right side.
Giordano - Brodie
Whoever - Hamilton
Would be nice if they could have one of their own step up and force themselves into that spot, like Wotherspoon or Kulak for example. Sure would help with the cap cluster on D.

Just do what I do in NHL 16. Trade the Lighting a bunch of contracts like Stajan and the like, then sign Hedman when the they run out of money.

a) this is not going to happen, but b) in a hypothetical world, if it did, I would LOVE for the Oilers to trade for him.
Sure, great player, but the amount of players Edmonton is going to have to include - players that don't have the value I think that Oilers fans/media/etc think that they do - in addition to their 1st round pick, would make their lack of depth, well, even crappier. Take say at least 2 of Yakapov/Nugent-Hopkins/Hall/Eberle...and/or 1 of Klefbom/Nurse...
And ha. PK Subban, McDavid and Darryl Katz's son playing 45min a night...
