To my mind you are splitting a pretty fine hair.
We are taking about an upbringing that would have been a living hell. I don't know, but it would not surprise me to know that he still deals with issues arising from his dad's beatings.
To my mind, the crimes against a child are the greatest, especially when they are committed by the person they should trust most (a parent).
In short, Burrows is mocking the death of O'Sullivan's childhood.

The laws of the US, Canada and most countries split that hair fairly easily. One is illegal, the other isn't and for good reason.

Burrows didn't cause those things to happen, but he did say some awful and hurtful things. There's a difference. It takes quite a philosophical leap to equate "the death of a childhood" with actual death threats...

Hey listen we don't have to agree, nor do I feel I need to "draw" to my point of view.
I will say that often, what people believe to be death threats aren't.
"somebody should go to Edmonton and kill Rachel Notley" isn't a death threat.

Not saying he deserves them, but there's a pretty eassy way to avoid having people hate you so much that they would utter such things.
Don't be a completely classless d***head. If Burrows' family is concerned, maybe they should quiz him on why he's saying these things to other people.

O'Sullivan was on Rome today discussing the article more in-depth; was very sad. Feel for the guy.

Yeah I heard that interview as well. Tough listen but also really good content, goddamn that Jim Rome puts together outstanding radio segments.

How unsurprising that Burrows is involved in this story.
999 people put of 1000 would know that trash talking someone about being abused as a child is off limits.
It floors me that anyone still defends this guy.

Sadly, if a fan were to guess who would be so gutless to say such things, would anyone not say Burrows within the first 3 guesses? Probably 80% in the first guess.

I am done with attempting to defend Burrows, I appreciate this story and some of how he plays the game but the on and off the ice antics that seem to follow him around are just too much to ignore. I wouldn't have a problem if he were to be bought out or traded for pretty much a back of pucks and a pat on the back at this point.

So after this, the Tootoo issue, and the O'Brien drinking gestures ....
anyone heard a reason why the league hasn't stepped in?

I was curious and took a peek and it's ridiculous that there are people actually condoning this as trash talking or an acceptable thing to say on the ice (as if it's acceptable anywhere).
Just shocking.
Edit: a couple good eggs making sense of the situation but the number of people in that fan base saying it's not a big deal with what Burrows said, etc... Mind bottling.

I was driving back home from Vancouver today listening to 1410 and they couldn't believe that a Canucks all time great would be guilty of saying that. After all this is a player with character who went undrafted and worked his way up from the ECHL.

There's something not right in Burrows head. There's poor judgment, and there's no judgment. He's missing some pieces. That extreme lack of human compassion is bordering on psychopathic.

The O'Brien drinking gesture is a bit of a non issue. It isn't as though he is an alcoholic to the best of my knowledge, he is a player who used to play on the canucks who had a long history of partying in the city. Even then where is the line for acceptable trash talk and what is crossing the line.

Yeah listening to 1040 out here in Vancouver and the hosts (Don Taylor especially) were making excuses for Burrows. Paraphrasing, but stuff like "well that's a long time ago when O'Sullivan played ... Burrows has a family now, I doubt he'd say such things now ... not connected to the Tootoo remarks ..."
Like one poster noted a page or so back, I really think you need to check your own morality if you support the Canucks. I live in Vancouver, and wish it weren't the case, but everything connected to the organization is d-bag.

Reddit (and probably HFboards) are pretty funny right now. Canuck fans are praising Burrows for being a stand-up character for his non-apology apology ("I'm sorry if you were offended").
