I'm all for a goaltending upgrade, but at some point soon the team needs a real solution and not another mediocre talent that everyone just hopes will "take the next step."
I would rather ride the season out and see what our shiny first round pick could help us acquire in net during the off-season. Looking at the season so far, I feel that spending the first round pick on a proven goalie [if available] will do far more to help the team even than acquiring Auston Matthews [in the event we draft #1].

The only goalies that I'd give a first overall pick for belong to teams that wouldn't trade them.

If Andersen or Khudobin are going to have a high price tag I would rather take a flyer on Bernier for cheap to see if he can re-find his game.

It'd take a flyer on Bernier if he came cheap (still would do a Hiller/Raymond for Bernier/Leaf UFA garbage in an instant). I think he's technically a lot for sound than either Hiller or Ramo. I feel what Bernier's going through right now is mostly mental. Hiller and Ramo just have flaws in their actual games that I'm not sure can be corrected at their points of their careers.

Are you saying you would rather trade #1 overall for a goaltending upgrade? If so... Carey Price, Pekka Rinne and or Hank Lundqvist arent available.
But seriously though, No. You take Matthews all day. A goaltender will come along. Sooner if a GM pursues it. But a good young Goalie can be had for a 2nd and maybe a throw in. Thats the nature of the position. You never know how one goalie is going to play for a team until hes actually between that teams pipes.
As for Anderson, I cant necessarily see hiom out performing Bernier infront of the current Flames roster. But I can see both oput performing the duds we have.
I think Bernier is the better choice due to the lower risk, not necessarily the higher reward. But Bernier is a bit more established and has shown he can be a brilliant goalie. Andersson has too, but in a much smaller amount of games.

Not that I disagree with you, but how do you figure that Bernier's issues are all mental and Hiller/Ramo's aren't? Neither Hiller or Ramo were this bad last season. Hiller's been pretty consistent his whole career. Why can't their mental issues be fixed? What makes Bernier special? For all we know, Bernier could be headed down that same slope our goalies are.
I also imagine Bernier coming here and not at all stabalizing the net. With the way our team's defensive coverage is, I can't help but feel Bernier would have the exact same issues.

I find Hiller's style is pretty limited. The guy is like a crappier JS Giguere. He blocks pucks rather than saves them, and goes down too early most of the time. Even last year, that was my frustration with him at times. To me, it looks like this is his style, and he's not going to change.
Ramo just over commits and loses his net too much. When he's lucky, he's able to scramble and make a highlight reel save. But when he's not, he's usually on his back somehwere outside the crease while the puck is shot in the net. I guess this could be a mental thing too, but the more I watch him this year, the more I'm convinced it's just the way he's used to playing.

I'd be happy if the Ducks crash and burn with their own three-headed goalie monster for awhile...

Is it? A recently turned 26 year old goalie with solid numbers that is a RFA vs a 32 year old small scoring winger who clearly is not the same player this year and is a pending UFA looking for big money? I didn't say a top prospect but not sure if one for one is fair based on contract status

I wonder if Jones would get any interest in Anaheim as the centerpiece of a trade for Andersen.

I think Anderson is being overrated a bit here. Had a solid season last year in front of the best team in the league, not exactly proven. I think you'd see similar numbers from Hiller/Ramo behind the 14/15 Ducks. Not saying I wouldn't be interested if I were Treliving, just that I wouldn't overpay.

Yah, I would be a little wary in giving up a lot for Anderson. For all we know, he could turn out to be another Viktor Fasth.

Even the love child of Hasek, Brodeur, Roy and Dryden would look like a fresh turd playing behind that Oilers' D.

Yup. Cam Talbot didn't just forget how to play. Nor did Dubnyk suddenly remember.

Oh, I don't disagree. If I was a young promising goalie, I'd be deathly afraid to be traded to the Oilers. Seems like that's where goalie careers go to get executed.
Is Fasth even in the NHL anymore?
