Top line was tested already. Did not work whatsoever.

Jooris is playing crap hockey right now. No, no, no. He shouldn't be in the line up at the moment much less on the top line. The things he was doing last season he isn't doing this year. The guy plays limited minutes and has taken the 2nd amount of minor penalties for us this season. He's playing stupid.

In the realm of bad wingers on top lines in Calgary Jooris would rate right up there with Jamie Wright and Ronald Petrovicky.

Gaudreau-Bennett-Jooris was a good line when Hartley already tried it. Probably the most tenacious and dangerous line we've had all season.

That said, I thought I had ninja edited my post before you quoted it =/

Well the already said Granlund's is playing tomorrow so press box for tomorrow is out of question. So 4th line it is and don't you dare make a mistake or else you will be benched for the night and scratched the next game.

Granlund's never lacked for opportunity here. They want him in the lineup. He just struggles to produce and be useful in general.

Even though hes one of our best players in Stockton, It's almost getting to be do-or-die for Granlund.

His contract is up at the end of the year and we still arent sure what we have in him. We've also gotten a good taste of what Grant can provide and Arnold still hasnt got a shot. Grant made a niche as a reliable centre that could tear it up in the faceoffs and has crazy good posession compared to ozs%. Arnold could have a similar upside. Granlund needs to find his niche which probably has to include putting up some points....

Im really interested to see what he is going to make of this opportunity especially if its an extended stint..

^ I agree ppl are quite easily blaming coaching decisions as the reason for lack of prospect development (Ortio, Granlund etc.) but the truth is these players still need to earn their opportunities in the Flames organization.

I like Granlund, Ortio, Grant, Kulak and even, at one time, Baertschi. But the truth is players are given opportunity when earned.

Granlund has been just as good as vets but, as many coaches have said, if it's a tie it goes to the vet. You need to surpass the vet to earn your spot. It's easy to say Gaudreau, Monahan and Bennet were gifted ice time cause of their hype but the truth is they were better than most players on the team, hence why they have earned ice time.

This makes me think Ortio, Granlund and Kulak weren't quite ready and Grant was a tough one but he's a fourth line guy that they like so they don't want to be put in tough situation if they keep him up and need to expose him to waivers later on because of it.

Hartley was tough on giving icetime to Baerstchi, and I truthfully hated it at the time (see profile pic), but what has he done since being traded?.. Nothing of note.

Monahan, Gaudreau, Bennett, and Brodie have all thrived under Hartley's coaching staff and I get that they are so talented they are quick studies but in truth no one else, outside Jooris -who is slipping, has earned much else in terms of prospects. Like I mentioned earlier I think Grant is a little bit of an exception but they value him highly and don't want to expose him in the event they need flexibility in future transactions..

I guess my point is it pisses me off a lot with seeing prospects like Orio, Granlund etc. seemingly not getting a fair shake. But the reality is no one in our prospect group, outside of the obvious, have been good enough to crack the team and I trust the staff on that.

The sad reality is that up to this point Monahan, Bennett and lucky late picks like Gaudreau and Brodie have been the only bright spots in our drafted prospect pool in the last number of years..

We have added to this mix with players like Hickey, Andersson, Kylington, Gillies and arguably Jankowski but the main point is that we shouldn't forget to see the bigger picture.

There are always going to be players that don't seem to get a fair shake but until a star emerges from the discarded group I won't worry too much about questioning Harley's decisions anymore. I loved Sven and hated how he was treated but I now know he was a victim of his own performance.

The best players are gonna play. It's up to the coach to decide who those best players are but generally I think they pick right more than we give them credit for..

(15-16 goaltending non-withstanding - never should have been 3 goalies from start)

They need to stop trying to force Granlund as a centre.

With Monahan, Bennett, Backlund, Stajan and Jankowski upcoming why press on the faceoff issue when instead you just get him accustomed to playing down the right side, say, at the NHL level which is a weakness for us. He's got some real finishing ability when he's on. Should develop him towards playing on Bennett's wing on the second line as a trigger man.

Good post. Another thing fans easily forget is that the coaches see a lot more of the players than we do.

Earning your opportunities starts from practices. The games are just the part we get to see.

And you haven't mentioned the forgotten man, Bill Arnold.

I just can't understand why Granlund comes in as a centre, but Bennett continues to play wing.

Bennett developing properly as a centre should be one of the biggest priorities for the remainder of this season. Monahan and Bennett as our top 2 centres is how we will have success going forward.

I don't think there's any rush on Bennett playing center this season. As good as he is, he's still finding his game, and I don't think him playing wing in the NHL necessarily hurts his development as a center.

I approve of Bennett on the wing. He seems to be thriving for now, which gives him confidence and the chance to play those key minutes in games. He's making a difference. He can learn to play center later.

Besides, the goal is not to develop Bennett into a center anyway. It would be great if his best position would be as center, but the goal is to turn Bennett into be the best possible player he can be, regardless of position.

Tons of great players who were drafted as centers work better as wingers in the NHL.

Having him learn to be successful at the NHL level is the most important thing for Bennett. Most centers when they first enter the league are shifted to the wing unless they are physically bigger, which is why Monahan stuck off the bat.

The Flames are not rushing Bennett.

Granlund is a relative veteran among our prospects and is the same age as Gaudreau. He is more "ready" to be a center than Bennett.

Also, Bennett was actually only a center for two or three years in juniors. Prior to that he was McDavid's winger oddly enough.

Arnold's stats in the A this year aren't too impressive. Not as good as Shore's, Elson's or Grant's at C.

Well those are pretty big years and really the one ones people should truly care about. I care more about where a guy played when he was 15, 16, 17 and playing in the OHL than a preteen before that.
