The mere fact that Ovi is in the conversation with these all-time greats in terms of goal scoring proves his elite & generational status.
Naturally, it's hard to compare players across eras so the debate will be never ending when it's all said and done. It's interesting though that we currently are able to watch a player who is counted among the greatest.

Someone on the flames should have done something about it but at the end of the day, that is Ovis personality. He wasn't harming anyone and was perhaps getting under the skin of the flames. Who knows, maybe he did something similar when he set another record and was superstitious.
Interestingly enough, at the lunch with Burke today he mentioned his favorite player in the league is Crosby and only 1 other player was brought into the conversation for what he has done for the game - Ovechkin.
I have watched hockey for a long time and I have never seen anybody do it.
Thats Ovis personality? He wasn't harming anyone? So you are cool with players doing this, or this is just something Ovechkin can do?
Regardless it lacks class and sportsmanship, guess thats just Ovi.

I'm not disagreeing, but a guy like Iggy for instance who is almost universally considered classy was a very serious face-puncher for a long time. Hard to argue that face punching is "classy", yet we all consider Iggy to be classy.
Perhaps in the minority here but Bossy is the best and purest goal scorer I have seen .
Incredibly quick release and his mind's eye almost always had the puck hitting the open space.
I agree - but the large goalie equipment of today (and butterfly goalies) would reduce his goals. He used to score on a lot of long shots from the wings, and those would never go in now. Lafleur used to get goals like that too.
In fact that Lafleur goal is so bad I wonder if the game was fixed.
I don't why people have to debate about his 2 way play or who played in what era and how those numbers affect such and such. Fact is, we are watching one of the best goal scorers OF ALL TIME do his thing, and do it better then anyone is recent memory. Let's just enjoy it shall we?
I'm just glad I've gotten to watch him do it from his very first game and will enjoy watching him until his very last. As a hockey fan, nothing is more exciting then watching an all time great move up the all-time scoring list.

It's a shame Pavel Bure's knees were garbage. Most dynamic blow you out of your seat goal scorer I've ever seen.
Some of the Bure stuff on youtube is just mind boggling. The "lost shifts" videos are really worth watching if you have some time.
EDIT: Some absolutely epic dives in this one...

The great majority of Bossy's goals were scored fifteen feet from the goalie on passes from Trottier with an exceptionally quick and well placed shot that few current or past goaltenders would have any chance of stopping.
The definition of pure goal scorer.
