Flames: Hamilton (5.75) + Brodie (4.65) = 10.4 Million Cap Hit

Edmonton: Sekera (5.5) + Nikta Nikitin (4.5) = 10 Million Cap Hit

It's easy to be a top pairing guy on teams like Carolina and Edmonton who have putrid defense. He's a second pairing guy on a good team. If he's on your top pairing, you're in trouble.

They have about $10 million left this season.

Sekera, 29, reportedly gets 6 yrs, $33 mil from Oilers. That's 1 more year and $10.5 mil than Stralman got from TBL one year ago at 27.

Yeah. Not sure he deserves this contract after one good season.

These types of moves get you into cap hell.

Don't you see the problem with this statement. Again the Oilers are overpaying for a #3 defensemen and are most likely going to ask him to play a #1 or #2 spot. And think about this, the Oilers are paying him close to what the Flames are paying Dougie Hamilton. I don't see how Oiler fans can be happy with this.

Its a good deal in that the Oilers payed probably market. This should in the real world stabilize their second pairing, however in the Oilers world he's on the first pairing and that's underwhelming.

Look for him to be paired up with Shultz on the first pairing.

The Oilers are a little bit better today. Are they better then Anaheim, Calgary and LA in our division? No and its not close? Are they good enough to fight with Winnipeg and Colorado for the Wildcard. The answer is no.

But its a move that chia had to make and good job by him.

That's a solid signing for Edmonton, as much as I hate to admit that. They still need some more work on the blue line, but at least they made one decision right.

In fairness to the Grease, this is a much better signing than Nikitin.

Oilers with too many Dmen right now. Expect something to give at some point here.

You are missing the part where the Kings will terminate the trade agreement they had with Carolina and demand that they get their player and pick back.

He will be 35 when the contract expires. Will be interesting to see how he handles being the expectations of being the guy in Edmonton on their blue line.

Letestu was 1.8 M per year. Gordon trade makes sense now, he replaces him on the 4th line and is 1.2 M cheaper and provides more offense and is still above 50% on the face off dot.

This isn't a fair comparison; one was a RFA.

The Letestu deal is fine but it's a couple years later than they needed it. Makes me wonder if Draisaitl is on the block or if he's slated for the AHL.
