He had one of the most egregious flops the second last CGY/DAL game, followed by a few more. Like "eeeeeeew did he just do that?" kind of dives. There's no doubt that first one recieved a warning at least

He flops a lot if you watch Dallas games. Seems like this pre-draft reputation as a lazy player who doesn't play defense is still fitting.

You are definitely entitled to your opinion, however in my opinion, the last couple of times the Flames played the Stars, he dove a few times...

The guy is listed at 6'2" and 210 lbs for Christ's sake but you would think he weighed less than Johnny Hockey the way he was flopping all over the ice on a few occasions. It was flat-out embarrassing.

But he is one of the most egregious divers in the league (unfortunately)

He has a reputation as a diver and for lacking class (insinuating that the Sedins were gay in a radio interview.) He won the Art Ross on a team that didn't make the playoffs.

Our team is known for its hard work, team spirit and dedication to a common goal. Unlike the Stars, we're in the playoffs.

No thanks.

Yeah, a guy who was drafted in the 5th round and is now one of the top power forwards in the league, the captain of an NHL team, an Olympian, and now an Art Ross winner probably isn't a hard worker would look terrible on the Flames!

You're entitled to your opinion on his character issues and diving, but to say you wouldn't want him on the Flames is absolutely 100% absurd. Some of you guys really need to watch this guy in an unbiased setting and realize how good he is. Sometimes pure skill outweighs character issues (if he even has any, really it was one bad comment on the radio which he apologized for).

I had no clue people hated Benn so much.

He's one of my absolute favorite players, I even have a jersey signed by him and his brother. He plays a tough, hard nosed game of hockey. Hits, fights, gets in corners, scores goals. Reminds me of Iggy in a lot of ways. 87 points this year, 79 last year. He's an elite hockey player on a poor team and is steadily improving and he's still only 25. He's going to be an elite player for the next 10-15 years. You can't deny that watching him and Seguin play together is damn exciting

I follow Dallas quite a bit and have no idea where the diving reputation comes from.

It comes from him flopping all over the place like he's 120 pounds and going down like he's Ryan Kessler in the 2010-2011 playoffs.

Everything you said about him is true. Fantastic player, getting better.

But he's a diver, and he doesn't need to play that way.

Have a ton of respect for him for the reasons you mentioned. However I lose some for his propensity to go down looking for calls. Hopefully that stops as he continues to mature.

Funny how the only result you get from googling jamie benn dives/diver goes back to this thread. I guess scoring a lot against the flames makes it easy to fall to bullying tactics and give someone a reputation he doesn't deserve.

This. Between Google and Youtube I can't find anything on him diving. I'm flat out confused on where the reputation is coming from.

Can someone in this thread give us some hard evidence of him diving?

Right because that happens to all the players who consistently put up points against the Flames.

Oh wait... no it doesn't. It's just Benn.

If you watched the Flames-Stars games this year and it didn't stand out to you, you're blinded by your autographed jersey.

So explain to me why his "reputation as a diver" doesn't seem to go beyond this board? Or why he hasn't been warned by the league if he is such an "egregios diver"?

Forsberg is another player who I never understood why some people called a diver. I must have seen hundreds of Forsberg games and never saw a clear dive.

Show me them then. I'm not the only one that doesn't think he's a diver, nor has a reputation as one. Maybe you caught one or two calls against Calgary you didn't agree with and simply labeled them as dives.

I'm not blinded by my jersey, I've been a fan before I even got the damn thing. Maybe you're blinded by him being in your division.

Isn't Hudler the true scoring leader? Even Strength King. Not padded.

http://www.sportingcharts.com/nhl/st...-leaders/2014/

Tied with Benn but wins tie-breaker for more goals, and not being a divey diver.

I want to see proof. Or clips, or something of Benn being a diver cause I don't see it and no games in my mind stick out that he was a diver. Only time I've ever heard that he's a diver is on CP, so which games?

So to leave the diving issue alone...

What I think we are seeing with this low total for the Art Ross is how talent is levelling off in the NHL. 4th line players now need to be able to contribute a regular shift, not just be situation players like goons. With more even talent on rosters, teams don't have to lean on 1-2 guys to score most of their points. There also aren't so many easy matchups to milk

Points per game leaders:

http://espn.go.com/nhl/statistics/pl...sort/avgPoints

Only 8 players did better than a point per game.

I would love to have Benn on our team. I don't think he was always this big of a diver until this year, or maybe I just don't remember that well from previous years. Plus I got a soft spot for guys who don't wear visors. I know it's not the smartest thing, but in my opinion they are automatically tougher. And I like tough.

I'm kinda glad Crosby didn't win.

Why is this disappointing? What does having a 100+ point Art Ross winner change?
