I'm surprised they didn't go with Jones or a Bee/Jones combo. I would think they offered something to one or both of them first, or they're probably pretty irate about being leapfrogged by a guy who's had short segments on the show only a few times.
(I also realize they are foreigners too, from Canada, but they don't have accents and are white, so most American's wouldn't know).
They're starting a new show on TBS, and Jason has said before that he had no desire to host TDS. He was uncomfortable enough in the few times he's had to guest host due to Stewart being ill

The other point is whether Noah can interview. Stewart was generally pretty good at it.
You didn't watch Stewart's first couple of years did you. Like most new late night TV hosts he was awkward and a bad interviewer to start. It wasn't until the 2000 presidential election that the show found it's political humor voice and Stewart hit his stride. When he first took over he was the straight man to the over-the-top wackiness of the corespondents, which is what I imagine Noah will start as. Once he's more comfortable in the role I can see him injecting his own brand of humor into each story

Jason Jones just left the show a couple of weeks ago. I think he might have another project that he is working on.
Nope, you're right, I didn't see any Daily Show until the early 2000's. If that's true, though, I'm not sure how it changes what I said. The Daily Show wasn't the phenomenon it is now back around 2000. It's in the spotlight. You don't get as much of a chance to find your sea legs in those circumstances.
But on the other hand, he doesn't have to BE Jon Stewart. It's possible that he can be something completely different and it'll work.

I hope he does well, but I'm very skeptical about how he is going to do interviewing some of these guests. Comedians tend to not be that great at it
Its tough to judge because it depends on their entire skill set.
When this show started Jon Stewart was a mediocre comedian and a bad actor, it was him rounding out his skills and bolstering them with his impressive writing and debating abilities that really made this work.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
Not to single out the Daily Show, but when is a woman going to host a late night show?
Handler was the last one?
I have watched the network shows much in the past few years so I can't comment on them.
But I really don't care if they are black, white, man, woman, or morbo. I want someone who puts on a show I enjoy. From what I have seen of Noah on the daily show, I think they are making a good choice.
Getting some heat for some old twitter activity...

I think a very self-depricating host is a big part of the spirit of the show, (which is why John Oliver could fill in for Stewart so well in his absence). In any of Noah's pieces that I've seen, he's always been in a role that's smart and confident (to juxtapose with Stewart), but I'm not convinced he'll bring the right voice to the show.
But that's just me. I don't do well with change in late-night shows. I usually stop watching after a change, whether it's a change in host or in format.
Try Doug Stanhope. He truly does not give a crap about what people think and it makes for great comedy. Stanhope gets away with things nobody else in the world can.
