Michigan must have some geek that hacked the system, 3 guys all with pretty much double the next guy, and 2 days ago one of them was in 8th place another wasn't even in the top 9.

1 Zach Hyman Michigan 10034
2 Tanner Kero Michigan 7639
3 Jamie Phillips Michigan 7205
4 Matt Garbowsky RIT 4005
5 Dominic Toninato Minnesota 2685
6 Zane McIntyre North Dakota 2404
7 Casey Bailey Penn 2219
8 Teddy Doherty Boston College 2055
9 John Gillies Providence 1626

So the Hobey Baker is always determined by a fan vote? Seems like a weird way to give out the award. Is there more to the process?

The fan vote is only for like 1% or something. Doesn't really matter

essentially the 59 coaches vote for who they think should win and the fan vote counts as the 60th vote. the top 10 players from that vote are considered by a committee to find a winner

so I wouldn't say it doesn't matter as it could knock someone out of the top 10 and out of consideration for the award.

Michigan and Michigan Tech are two different schools. Michigan Tech is a small school on Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It's closer to Thunder Bay than it is to Detroit. Michigan is in Ann Arbor, just outside Detroit.

The last time Michigan Tech's hockey team made it to the NCAA Tournament was 1981. They've had 2 winning seasons in the last 30 years. This year, they're doing well and look like they'll finally make it back to the tournament. It's possible that with a dedicated voting effort from their student body, the Michigan Tech votes could be legitimate.

However, both their players' votes are steadily going up by a couple hundred a minute even now (after 3am in Michigan), so I'd say it's safe to assume that someone there figured out a way to rig the voting. That's what you get when you stick a bunch of nerds together in a small town in the middle of nowhere in Northern Michigan.

Sorry didn't notice about the two different schools, there site makes it vary hard to look at the current rankings.

But it does really seem fishy
