Granny is a better all around player. He's a C, is very good offensively and defensively as well. I get that Ferly is a physical player but as he gets better in time, Granny will also get better. So I'm not sure what you think Ferly will bring in 3 years over Granny?

We've lost two games in a row, it happens, I wouldn't even suggest that's start losing, it's just two games. What exactly do you think you're "Just saying..."

Agreed. He doesn't have a large stature on the ice.
But he certainly plays physical. I think the expectations are ahead of the reality, but people are imagining a power forward with hands who runs people down. I think he's shown that it could reasonably be his trajectory, despite not having a goal yet.

Most times for most teams, players returning from injury is a good thing. But in a rebuild, when the cupboards are somewhat stocked with options, these vets can actually hurt with assessing your prospects.
What we should be projecting is who will be part of this team in 2016/17 and onward. These are the years where I expect/hope that this team is a legit cup contender.
I agree with Baertch and Fer hitting the farm, but if the next cut is Granlund... That's a bad move - he is not overwhelmed here and is growing.

It's not a matter of who is better or improves more. It's a matter of what the Flames have at each position, both right now and 3 years from now.
Granlund projects out as a Backlund/young Stajan IMO. We have a Backlund, who was Calgary's best fwd last year, give or take a Hudler. Maybe Granlund replaces him, but we also have Jooris, Monahan, Colborne and Bennett at centre.
Ferland is a power winger who can score goals. The closest we have is Glencross and if he's here in 3 years, he's not on the top lines any more.

If Colborne and Raymond don't exemplify the work ethic the team has been playing with in their absence, then they should be sat. Need everyone to buy in. They need to show they are the better options, regardless of status as players.

You're compartmentalizing the team. It was this kind of thinking that led the Canucks to trade Hodgson for Kassian.
Ferland is bigger than Granlund and has a more aggressive playing style. I agree it's useful to have guys like that but I don't think it's fair to project that Ferland has a bigger role in three years than Granlund.
I also think Granlund has more potential as a goal-scorer than Backlund, Stajan or Ferland. He has the best shot and the best instincts of the guys you've mentioned and he also plays a solid all-around game at 21.

Right now I wouldn't mind seeing Byron sat for a game. He's been pretty ineffective for a stretch now.

Ferland and Granlund have both been very good but they play different roles.
Colburne coming back is a big body who's been playing wing. Makes sense Ferland is the one going down.
What's ridiculous is the pissing contest developing in this thread between people comparing the two young players. This is exactly the type of thing that causes some short sighted posters to start hating on a particular player. People say ridiculous things and then seem more interested in entrenching themselves in that stance than they do being objective moving forward and next thing you know you have someone rooting against certain players. Happens a lot here.
I'm sure Ferland will do well in the AHL and will be back sooner than later.

Ferland needs ice and playing time. This is the best thing long term for both parties. If not for the injuries Ferland wouldnt've been considered for the NHL this year. He needs to develop and play at pro game. Granlund is more sutied for the NHL right now.

The past couple of games, I think Granlund is making progress again after looking slightly lower on energy a week ago. If that continues, I see him getting even more responsibility in the near future.

Yeah. He always works hard and belies his lack of size, but he is definitely one you look to to produce a few points here and there. He is pointless in his last 8 games, his joint longest dry spell with us. That has to be a concern and one he needs to end and fast.

I just wonder what the Flames do if they have two guys they like in NY (Ferland and Granlund eventually)
are still in a playoff spot
and come up to the trade deadline.
Do they still look at dealing Glencross and then call a guy up?
Stay the course because of the playoff spot?
Add to the roster with picks for vets to boost the team's chances?
So interesting.
