Brookbank actually had a great year in Anaheim two seasons ago. He can play and fight

so imagine if we have him on the roster as well? We will have quite the bruising bottom pairing. Smid and Engelland will be tough enough but add him to the mix.

he'd be a good fit for #6/7 guy this year. could come in and play 13 mins a game.
now, if wotherspoon wants to earn a spot with the NHL flames, he has to beat out the #6 guy, beating brookbank (who i was imagine falls to #7 in the depth chart as of now) wouldn't garner him a spot.

Brookbank is a good enough D-man to be a 7th man.

Just what we needed! Another terrible defenseman... can't have too many of those!

Sign him up.
Honestly, get him to play a few minutes a night, hopefully hes steady, then trade him at the deadline for whatever you can get.
Costs nothing but money, a contract and a roster spot assuming he can beat some kids out of the spot.

A #7 Dman on an awful team won't fetch anything at the deadline. But it's probably better for Wotherspoon to continue to develop getting top pairing minutes in the AHL, and the Flames are not winning anything regardless. So I'm on board the Brookbank train.

You never know. If he surprises everyone and hes cheap he may get you a draft pick of some sort. 7th-5th. Who knows? Someone might be desperate at the deadline.
And I agree with you, it gives kids that just might not be ready yet another year in the AHL and we may even get something out of it.

Wouldn't be bad for a #7 guy. Not really a spot we'd want a promising prospect holding anyway.

I'm expecting Engellund to earn the 7th spot, leaving the 6th spot open.

They didn't sign Engelland to that deal so he could sit in the press box. He'll at least be #6.

He will start at 6 no doubt but I expect him to play his way down to 7 over the year. Pessimistic, I know

Interesting.
I read this as police force for the younger and smaller players. I like it.
