I think it works a lot better if the guy in net on the street/gym is actually a hockey goalie. Non-goalies just dicking around in street pads seem to make up their own bizarre, hybrid style and in a way, actually play better like that. Actual goalies used to the ice usually try to play the same butterfly style on the street, and from the waist down anyway, it just doesn't work at all. Always leave the biggest gap in the 5-hole.
If you've ever wondered why goalies usually whine & moan about not wanting to play in net in street hockey, that's why. It's so frustrating how different it is.
