If Edmonton doesn't get him signed, I could definitely see that happening. Burke was the one who signed Scrivens as a free agent out of College.

I think the Oilers will overpay him before July gets here.

Didn't think creating another thread was necessary.

What I think is going to happen (Now that Berra is traded):

Ortio will be starting and playing until Ramo is back from injury. Mac is coming back, but all I see him doing is being a bench warmer unless Ramo has a bad game, or a back-to-back game.

Ortio should go back to the AHL for further development, and also play for the Heat in the playoffs.

You've got to be happy for the return Burke got for Berra, this essentially gives Ortio the starting spot until Ramo comes back. If Ortio plays lights out before Ramo comes back, that 'd be awesome. But regardless, it would make sense for to Ortio play in the AHL while Mac just sits on the bench for Ramo.

Guess we rely on the Finnish to finish!

I'd trade Berra, problem solved

I could see the Flames go after a college goaltender now. Steve Summerhays, for example.

I've been looking at Ramo's stats, could he be a starter in this league? He's only 27, so he's still got some potential and is just entering his prime.

In October and November, he was pretty bad, posting .888 SV% and 3.5GA while going 2-4 (October) and .896 SV%, 1.75 GA (this number is skewed a bit since in two of the games he came on as a relief to Berra) posting a 1-3 record in November.. Which is understandable considering A) team sucked and lacked chemistry (plus injuries) and B) just came from KHL and as such he needed a little time to adjust to NHL.

But, in December and January, he's been pretty good.

December: 3-4, .922, 2.28 ga
January: 6-5, .911 and 2.27 ga

I think those are more than respectable numbers for a goalie playing on a lottery team.

I talked to Mike Gillis and he advised me to trade both my starters.

Craig MacTavish disagreed, he actually said I didn't have enough goaltenders. He figures you need minimum 6 goaltenders per year.

MacTavish also said giving away your whole defensive core is a great idea too, (and quite frankly wasn't a very good one either).

That 2nd round pick scares the crap out of me, when a Hall of Fame Goalie overspends by that much you have to wonder if we all missed something (it's tough to call Patrick Roy an idiot and all of us goalie experts) Ortio's emergence is making it easier though, even if it is just the Islanders and Coilers

I've read in a couple places that Allaire, the goalie coach in Colorado, really likes Berra, and has worked with him before. The quote I specifically remember is that Berra was his "favourite student."

I think that there is a very good chance that Berra will end up being a quality goalie in the NHL with Allaire coaching him, but I don't think he would have had the same chance here. Berra's issues were losing his net and rebound control - to my eye anyway - and his strong point is his athleticism.

I do hope that Berra is successful in Colorado, they're not in our division anyways.

So if we got a 1st back instead you'd be even more scared?...

The way I see it, Burke was dealing from a position of strength where he didn't need to make a trade.

I guess as Flames fans, we're not used to seeing players traded that have any potential upside, just players that have peaked or older established players that are going to be UFAs.
