To ease the pain after a loss like this I like to take a quick trip to HF Oilers for ample evidence that things could always be much, much worse.

I don't mind the tough love approach for Sven, but I really thought he's been playing well. I thought he was the best Flame versus Phoenix, so the benching was confusing. Even still, I don't think it's the end of the world to sit a young down every once in a while.

Hopefully, management is reminded that the more veterans they dress, the crappier this team plays. I think you do need SOME good veterans on a young team, but the Flames have way too many.

I don't like Glencross, but honestly, I thought this was his best game, not saying much though. Still want him gone but fat chance that he's waiving, this gig is perfect for him.

Having Gio out sucks, but I liked having the opportunity to watch Breen. I thought he played well. He's not going to be a top 4 guy, he's a 6 at best, but he plays a role and he's also a good fighter and as much as many hate this, you need that element. If he could develop more of a mean streak in terms of his physicality on the boards, he could be very useful.

Meh.. you win some, you lose some. I thought the Flames came out pretty well, especially with their hitting. Dallas just responded well. Our defence wasn't up to snuff, and I think it deflated the Flames a bit. Ramo I thought couldn't really be faulted on any of them - especially the first goal where everyone just forgets about Chiasson right in front.

Year one of the rebuild. It will get worse before it gets better. Just hope for strong efforts and fun games, and see guys developing out there and an identity forming.

Right! Hat's off to Breen for trying to give this team a spark after those goals. Made a few mistakes out there, but he tried to make an impact.

The effort just wasn't there at all tonight. I'm hoping this is a result of the end of a 5 game road trip and not the re-introduction of some veterans into the line up that was previously very strong. Also, the loss of Gio hurts a lot and Brodie has been disappointing save for the LA game. Breen needs to improve immensely to become a regular NHL defenseman. Feel bad for Ramo, his stats suck but he has actually been solid, better than Mac in my opinion. Still a 4-4-2 record isn't horrible, but it might've raised expectations when most of us had already accepted the fact that this was likely a bottom 3 team in the league. Not that they should just accept a losing mentality (Edmonton) and are hopefully embarrassed by this loss. But hey, every team throws up games like these, whether this is going to be a trend this year or just a blip on the radar has yet to be seen, but they need at least 2 wins on the 3 game homestand if they want to stay with the rest of the pack. Hopefully Gio and Sven are back for Saturday.

Random thoughts:

The "chip the puck up to the forward on the half wall" breakout is being read by the opposition very easily and it's leading to a lot of turnovers.

I'm totally over Glencross's no-look, backhand passes to no-one.

Why does every turnover end up in the back of our net? It's like a Danish bakery back there.

Just cannot understand why Jackman is dressing. He is just not a good hockey player.

Our D without Giordano is dreadful.

Breen is in over his head, and that's pretty frickin deep, cuz dude is tall.

1. Games like this happen. Just disappointed the effort wasn't there. I'm sure it will be back Saturday against the Caps. 2. Glencross isn't sitting, and he will not sit unless he's injured, so don't get your hopes up. He's just in a slump. He'll bounce back. I think the fans need to relax and stop worrying about him so much.

1. That's how every team in the NHL breaks out. (If I'm understanding correctly).
2. He'll bounce back
3. Because we're the Flames
4. Disagree. He's an excellent 4th line energy guy. That said, I'd rather have Gratts playing.
5. 100% agree
6. Slightly agree. I don't think he's totally in over his head, but he needs to calm down a bit.

For the love of God please bench Glencross next game. He looks like Bourque 2.0 out there

No. I mean you CAN'T blame Ramo for any of those goals. Not on this board anyways.

When Ramo lets in a softie, talk about some breakaway save last week. When MacDonald lets in a softie, talk about how lousy he is. That's how it works around here.

The love Ramo gets around here is becoming increasingly annoying. A couple of days ago there was a thread about how good he is because he was "in eighth place in even strength save percentage among starting goalies".

I wouldn't say he is average. The very definition of the word suggests that he is as good or better than half of the goalies in the league. Not the case.

Last night was what I would have expected, it was a long road trip which usually means a really tough game.

Flames ran out of gas half way thru the game.....
