I eat enough fibre to ensure that I'll make something Edmonton every day.

Make Something Edmonton? What the heck...?
Didn't think it could be worse, but yep, that's worse.
As mentioned, it doesn't even make any sense.
Why not just say 'Edmonton: Talk Gooder', or 'We huff paint fumes'.

Just watch your cheese intake or you'll get all that Edmonton stuck inside you.
That could be painful.

It's a decent slogan for a city that has kind of redefined itself as the arts hub of Alberta (anyone here who claims otherwise is obviously still stuck in the 80s, Edmonton has a lot going for it in terms of food, festivals, etc.) I mean, city slogans are stupid anyway (heart of the new west? wtf did that mean?) Be part of the energy is a good one, which is what tourism calgary and CED were using for a while (they may still be?)

There was an old west, now there's a new one, Calgary's the heart of it. Easy. But "Make something Edmonton"? That's the most ######ed slogan I've ever heard.

Edmonton is the arts hub of Alberta? When did that happen? I know they tried to rebrand themselves as The Festival City a few years back, but I think I remember reading that a little research showed Calgary actually had more (and generally larger) festivals.
Like the City of Champions sign, just because you say it, doesn't make it true.

If by 'cool' you mean, 'looks like it fell down during construction and nobody bothered to fix it,' you're right.
I'm afraid the aesthetic appeal of buildings that are designed to look like wreckage is outside the range of my sympathy.

Sorry for being unaware... Edmonton has a traffic circle with lights?

It used to have several. There were actually four sets of lights in each circle, one at each point where a street entered the circle. The design was even more idiotic than it sounds. I think the last one of those monstrosities was ripped out several years back.

Anecdotally, I think calgary and Edmonton spend more per capita on the arts than any of the major cities in Canada, but I think it's the diversity of offerings in Edmonton that makes the art scene stronger than ours - and the stampede skews a lot of stats. I think they've got better music scene, for example (in terms if concerts) but to be fair I can't name one band that hails from Edmonton off the top of my head.
And the city of champions slogan came from the disaster response from the tornado that hit in 1987, it had nothing to do with their sports teams.
Some of the rips on the new slogan has made this a 5 star thread.

It means grow a mullet, put on a nice pair of sweatpants to go out for a fancy evening at the mall and slap a pair of trailer hitch testicles on to your vehicle.

Yes it is. That's why there's a need for the new slogan to make sure people stop building cool stuff and instead make something Edmonton.

NOTHING to do with it? I'd find it hard to believe that the folks that came up with the slogan weren't even faintly aware of the city's recent run of championships.
It had something to do with it. For sure. I'm thinking that in their minds, it was, "well, if the shoe fits..."

Not sure I buy that. I have no quotes to back my thoughts here, but what I remember from being around at the time there was no mention of the tornado regarding the slogan. It was all sports success related. As I said, though, just a feeling.
