Don't those tanker cars hold twice the amount that they are saying? Maybe they mean 80000 kilos?

I have had enough!! It is time to build a firewall around Calgary! Enough of this Federal incompetence disrupting our lives. If Calgary engineers had jurisdiction, they would have inspected that bridge, and deemed it unfit to hold a train carrying over a million liters of petrol products!
Time for President Nenshi to make our own declaration of independence ahead of THEIR 'Canada Day'.

It is most likely a CP rail ROW like Fotze said. I am not sure where this federal property stuff is coming from. CP is responsible for heaven to hell on their ROWS.

They said on Global that the bridge had been inspected on Saturday.

The bridge could be inspected and pass but that's just the structure. This seems to be the riverbed "failing". There's not really a way to inspect that with the water so high and fast, but I suppose that means the bridge shouldn't have been used until such time that it could?
 Tough call.

CP is responsible but I thought the Federal government still had to sign off on the safety/structural component.

That bridge is pretty old, looks like it was put together with hot rivets.

I've been told that they actually fill the cars (to give them extra weight) with something that won't hurt the environment if the car leaks, something like grain.
