As said before, imo a far more relevant coach in today's style of NHL then the Flames' current situation...it's a shame it looks like the radical direction change on the ice isn't carrying over off the ice as well. Now's the time to start clean and promote stability for the next 5+ years and a guy like AV would be a good option in that regard.

Not sure if Feaster and Hartley will survive another season like this last one and it may be in the best interests to keep them another season to ensure they can get in a position to draft Max's little brother. I have no doubt Hartley will deliver us another top pick in the 2014 draft.

Thank goodness they finally saw the light and got on with it. Looks like it's going to take the Canucks a few more years to realize it needs done there.

Hey hey hey, we've been through this a million times, let's not lose focus on what's on topic.

Haven't read this entire thread, but from a Flames perspective I think this is a good thing. I've always personally believe that the Nucks of the past few seasons (the cup finalist, division champ versions) have actually been a team that has always been better than the sum of it's parts. Which to me suggests a big key to their success was coaching, versus having the best roster available.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I think AV got more out of that line up than it was actually worth, sort of like Darryl did here in 04. I know it's fun to hate on Burrow's, but he's the classic example IMO, take that guy out of Vancouver and AVs system, and I'm not convinced he's the impact player he has been with them for the past few seasons. It will be interesting to see what happens to them.

Yes, it is Hartley's fault. Guy has been successful everywhere he has been but all the sudden he sucks. When are the fans going to stop blaming the coaches?

Too early to blame Hartley agreed, but there is far too much assumption of Mutual Exclusiveness around here. It isn't either the players fault, the coaches fault, or the GMs fault in regards to the Flames, it can be a combination of all three.
I fully believe there is was a huge player problem the past 4 years in Calgary that needed to be addressed. I also fully believe a coach not named Brent Sutter could have gotten more out of the group assembled while he was here. And the above two also mean, that whether it be by assembling the players, picking the coaches, or a combination of both, that there was also a GM problem in Calgary as well. Players weren't doing there part, the coach couldn't get the most out of his group, and a GM that couldn't get the right players to match up with his coach and vice versa.
So no need to stop blaming the coaches, just as long as the blame doesn't stop there.

fire Mike Gillis, hire Pavel Bure as GM/President and than hire Marcus Naslund as Head coach. Since the Avs have Sakic and possibly Roy at the Helm...

I think the team itself is bad but Hartley isn't the type of coach that will get a bad team to overachieve comparet to coaches that value defensive structure like Brent Sutter, Dave Tippet, etc that can squeeze wins out of poor talent with structured team play.

While I agree with you, he wasn't that successful in Atlanta for the record. One playoff appearance, and zero playoff wins in 4+ years with the Thrashers was a very poor record.

Hartley won with a loaded Avalanche team in a totally different style of NHL, on and off the ice.
Since that SC win he made the playoffs twice in past 11 years. Like Feaster, out of the league entirely for a few years then over to coach in the Swiss league until he calls up Feaster who was trying to squeeze the last out of the core. He failed in that and, as has been mentioned, made this team noticeably worse with a lineup very close to what Brent had.
As for letting them flounder another year, don't think that will fly with the owners. Chances are that all this cap space will be chewed up this year, signing guys to multi year deals that will still be here when Hartley and Feaster are gone, leaving a mess for the next crew to clean up.
Time for making that long term change is now, not after pissing away a draft and buyout period and tens in millions in cap space, under a gm and coach that don't have a long leash, and certianly not 3-5 years of security at this point IMO.

Kinda looks like Dave Tippet maybe on his way to the Canucks, that or the Avs are also in the running for him IF he doesn't re-sign with the Yotes.

our media is terrible, every single writer at the Province thinks of themselves as a GM
Gillis can stay forever if he keeps trolling them at every press conference

Gillis is pretty arrogant. Pretty much patting himself on the back for the moves he made with the team and blaming the failings of the team on AV.

I hope Gillis stays forever. He should have been the guy to go. Horrible trades, drafting, and cap management. Extremely arrogant to top it off

Hmmm. A 313-170-57 regular season record. 6 Division titles in 7 years. Two President's Trophies. A Stanley Cup Finals appearance. And a Jack Adams.
Clearly this guy was a horrible coach and will be easy to replace.
