Should I have driven it longer after replacing the battery?
Alternator, distributor or starter?

Yeah, I am starting to think it is the alternator. I was hoping the battery would fix things but it has not.

Despite the fact I know very little about cars, my buddy experienced a similar problem a few years ago and it was his alternator that was screwed.

Best museum I ever went to was just outside of Ottawa - the Diefenbunker. Canada's Cold War government bunker in case of Nuclear attack. It's as awesome as it sounds. a 4 story reinforced concrete building buried under a hill in a cow pasture.

Sounds like the alternator for sure. Check the voltage on your battery, it should be around 12.6v.

An easy test is to start the car and then undo the negative cable on the battery, if the car stalls then it was running on the battery. Keep in mind that used to be a good trick 20 years ago, not sure if doing that will hurt a newer car with all the electronics and onboard computer. Best bet is probably to charge the battery and then drive it to a (honest) mechanic.

That won't work now. Most cars now will stall if the battery is disconnected. Many years ago when I had my ignition physically break, my mechanic told me to disconnect the negative terminal to shut off the engine.

Kinda figured as much, it was a good test a few decades ago when I still did all the work on my own vehicle

What does "red shirt" player in NCAA football mean? For example, a red shirt freshman.

Sounds like the alternator, 8 years is about the right amount of time for it to wear out.

If its the alternator, your car should start with a boost, but will die when the cables are removed. If it won't start with a boost, then it could be the starter, a fuse, or a wiring disconnect to the engine.

(Also check your belts, make sure the alternator is turning and the belt isn't loose).

Are you using your normal hand or the one that was replaced with a hook?

A player that practices with the team, but does not play in games, and thus maintains the year of eligibility.

Not sure...

Are we talking about the Shaw PVR? and are you looking to just add more storage to the PVR unit itself? or are you looking at putting your own movies on a hard drive using a computer, and then watch them on your TV?

If it's the former, then you will likely need an E-SATA hard drive and self powered enclosure. (Something like: http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX12567). Also, you should talk to Shaw to make sure the external drive feature is enabled on your PVR. (I believe the Pace models are, but the Motorolla units may not be).

If it's the latter, then something like this: http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX33520 and a USB drive should do the trick. (Note that this wouldn't be using your PVR at all, but would be an additional device connecting to your TV). You could also just connect your computer to your TV and watch movies that way, in which case you could probably use any type of external drive you wanted.

If you have a volt meter have a buddy start the car while you monitor the battery. It should be sitting at 12.8V if it is fully charged, and then drop no lower than 11.4V when cranking over, then once the engine is running if the battery reads 13.8 - 14.4V then you know the alternator is okay.

Do not do that. You can bugger your car's electronics systems.

This, plus a player can only redshirt once. It saves a year of eligibility so is normally used to cover an injury year or for academic problems or for a freshman who's not quite ready. Players get four years of eligibility so this means a player can be with a team for five.

The whole cow bell thing has ruined the majesty of the song. Yeah, it's a funny bit (well, really funny), but it's not as funny as the song is majestic.

You can set it to only record that series once at that given time. Not all occurrences.

Cross the river to Gatineau and visit Pigales for a drink or two.
Best talent I've ever seen. You can thank me later
