Give him a fine, ban him from coaching. Case closed. No need to milk this or paint the guy as anything worse than an idiot.

If it was my 13 year old, I'd have to be restrained from getting on the ice and introducing my foot to his a@@.

This is a special kind of crime that deserves a special punishment. This guy should have to stand on the side of a road with a sign that says "I'm a d-b" for 100 hours. And buy the kid a new bike.

I feel there are a few points here
1) He should be charged, what a cheap shot, doesn't matter what the other kid did. If two guys square off in a mutual fight outside the bar and can be charged with assault or whatever they get charged with, then this guy who cheap shotted a kid should be charged.

2) I don't know why they still have hand shakes after the game. More kids are punched, sworn at and spit on during the hand shake then any other time of the game. Many leagues have gone away from the handshake and as a Ref I have on occaision told the teams to just leave and not bother shaking hands, the coaches have always agreed. I have done this even in the Atom division.

3) We haven't heard what this kid did but I bet if he was "goonin it up" he will always remember this and straighten up his play, wrong way to learn a lesson though.

Police? Really?

Come on guys, we're taking this a bit far. Let me just get the Department of Player Safety's Brendan Shanahan on the phone and we'll straighten this out....

I have seen assault charges laid for far more benign stuff. I don't see why people don't understand this was very wrong.

I'm not saying crucify him, I'm not even saying send him to jail, but I gotta shake my head in wonder for people who don't think it's appropriate to lay charges here.

Given the broken wrist I don't have a problem with charges, but I really want ot know what preceded the incident. Maybe one of the opposition kids is in the locker room with a broken leg from a cheap shot, we don't know.

Hockey is full of idiot players, parents, and coaches, I don't see why this incident is so shocking. When you have a culture of intimidation, retaliation, and bullying incidents like these are going to happen.

I'll take a really wild guess and say the coach was hammered when he did this.

Predictably Cecil comes along and takes a ridiculous position then sits back and enjoys the attention.

What a goof.

Update: Tremblay gets 15 days in jail.

Quote:
Richmond provincial court Judge Patrick Chen gave Tremblay jail time, saying he wasn't satisfied that time served in the community was enough to denounce or deter the man for his actions.
