From what I have been reading, it doesn't.
Those that are slightly overweight, but work out and have decent fitness have lower rates of heart disease and other health ailments than sedentary people that are in the normal weight range.
Most know my story from the weight loss thread. From July 1st, 2009 to July 1st, 2010 I lost 168 pounds. I push exercise, exercise, exercise with people because I've seen way too many people try and fail trying to lose weight on diet alone. And as that video that was posted earlier in this thread states, there are far more benefits to exercise besides losing weight. I think those that say "they don't have time" need to re-evaluate their priorities.
I've been asked to speak at conferences and I always tell the story about my uncle who says that he doesn't have time to exercise. I remember having a conversation with him over weight loss and he said:
"I have a few tips on weight loss that I wanted to run by you. I picked them up watching "Biggest Loser" yesterday. What do you think about... "
I held up my hand and stopped him right there. He is struggling with his weight, says he doesn't have time to exercise, but apparently has time to sit down and watch "Biggest Loser" on TV? And I get that from so many people. "I don't have time in my busy life to exercise... but I do have time to watch my favourite TV shows!!!".
