Purple mustangs for sure.

But actually i would love to see alternative energies being used in cars more. Gasoline needs to be made obsolete already. If we can get Hydrogen Fuel cells in cars in the future i think our world just might be a much better place to live. Plus it would make those of us who still have gasoline engines be able to drive them in 10-15 years.

Skycars? That is a complete farce propagated by the joke of a magazine called Popular Mechanics.

A lot of $$ is going into green cars for sure, but I'm looking to stick to those 3 categories (human-car interface, safety and sensors though sensors is a pretty well researched field).

I know it exists but they should put brake lights in the front.sure make it easier to know if people are actually going to stop or not.Specially for pedestrians.

Ban automatic transmissions. It would force people to
A. Be better at driving, and
B. Focus on it more.

Otherwise, if the fuel changes, keep the internal combustion please. Hydrogen combustion. It's just...so much more fun. No self-driving. Getting into a car with no driver is like getting into a plane with no pilot. I wouldn't do it. Ever!

On electric cars, if they are the future, they will never be battery powered.

In Alberta, our electricity comes primarily from fossil fuels. There is no way these plants are more efficient than a car engine that has new emission requirements (that are much more closely watched by the govt., and the environmentalists that influence their green policies). The loads vary quite a bit in a powerplant, and you're converting chemical energy to kinetic, to electrical, to chemical, to electric, to kinetic. Way too much waste. Internal combustion = chemical to kinetic. That is all. Not to mention if your commute is close to, or more than half of your range, your employer will charge you for a plug-in. This is also without mentioning what cold does to a battery, and how it works way better in California (where most of today's electric cars reside) than in Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Iqaluit, etc.

Not sure if it would be safe for a car to slam on the brakes in the middle of the street..

The average coal power plant is about twice as efficient as even the most efficient ICE these days.

Engines in cars are 20-30% efficient. Coal power plants these days are ~65% efficient.

Count me in for auto-driven cars. Reduced auto-collisions, disappearance of drunk driving, better traffic flow, it seems like there are a lot of potential benefits to letting computers do our driving for us. If and when we reach the point where every car drives itself I'd fully support banning human driving.

How great would it be to jump in your car to go to Edmonton or somewhere and spend the 3 hours working, reading, watching a movie, playing a game or catching up on your sleep? It would be like riding a bus except you don't have to deal with schedules and stop locations and all of that. Add in a car that parks itself and you can jump out at the front entrance of a grocery store, let it park itself and then signal it at the checkout to return to the front entrance to pick you up.

I know it's hard to believe, but some of us actually enjoy the act of driving and don't view it as a menial task.

I would like the technology in cars that can connect to the internet and your home network.

So the ability to stream music or video from the internet while you are driving (video for the backseat obviously). And the ability to connect to your home network through wifi, sync up with your music or video storage, download the content at night (when you are parked near your house) and be ready to go in the morning.

I am a bit shocked that it hasn't happened yet.
