I heard that in my 1st year at UofA, where they changed from the 9-pt system to the 4.0 system, a few people were failed under the 9-pt system but passed under the 4.0 system and when that mistake was found out midway through the next semester, the Dean offered everyone who was caught in that a free class as long as they keep their mouth shut.

Now what to do when you're accused of academic misconduct and the associate dean shows you no proof of what they allegedly have against you? Lol.

Are you referring to the "Missing Link"? This guy was run over on campus sometime in the mid 80s and I saw that he was still on campus, taking classes in the the mid 2000s. Someone told me that he has essentially become a ward of the university. He lives - at least he used to - in K-Hall and just takes courses.
I think that this guy is getting free tuition for the rest of his life.

In one of my wife's classes back in university, the prof lost all the exams before they were written. She showed up to the exam with nothing and gave everyone 100% for showing up.

I had something similar. My math final was 45% and I had 96% going into the test. Write it, it seemed easy so didn't think anything of it. Get my marks a month later and my final mark was 77%. I was like WTF! So I went to see him and see my mark and he tells me I got 54% on the final.
I ask to see it and he pulls it out. I had 49.5 out of 54. Not 54%. He re entered my marks thankfully. It had pulled my GPA down to 3.7. Thankfully back at 3.9!

Do your parents have bumper sticks that say my child is an honor student as well?

Most (and not all, but most) universities in the USA will not allow finals to be worth than 50%. it is not considered "best practices" for ONE assessment to have so much weight because some people aren't good test takers......so they have a wide array or assessment methods throughout the course of the semester (papers, group projects, quizzes and final). This way you are not penalized for not being good at one type of grading tool. This includes Harvard and Stanford....
But there is wayyyyy more work (assignments/projects) etc throughout the semester.
