Bears are now going to need recievers that don't get lost after going 10 yards down the field.
Not that they lost anything in Orton, but Cutler's arm is going to go to waste in Chicago unless they open up the offence a bit more.
They ran (or backed in) to the Superbowl a few years back, and TBQH, haven't played a whole lot different the last couple years, just didn't get the magical (see game vs ARI, and others) flukes to get those extra wins to get them where they got that year.

You got to wonder about the boozing allegations with these young players. It isn't uncommon for young men to go drinking. Heck I used to get drunk at least twice a week in my 20's. As long as it isn't affecting their on field performance I really don't see why it is a big deal.
Carl Peterson stated that Jared Allen was a "young man at risk" because of his drinking. Now Allen made two dumb mistakes by driving under the influence. Still Peterson didn't have a problem signing junkies and wife beaters or common criminals. Even the late great Derrick Thomas liked to go around fathering children with numerous woman. Isn't that a major character flaw?
I just wonder if the boozing allegations are blown out of proportion? Or if somebody like Cutler is actually an alcoholic? Is he drunk a couple times a week? Is he puking in a bucket in the locker room before a game like Mikey Mantle? Or is he simply having a few beers with his buddies on his day off? Which is it?

IMO its not about him drinking...its about him drinking and being a type 1 diabetic...its literally slow suicide to combine those two.

Brian Cushing and Clay Matthews test positive for steroids at NFL Combine?
http://www.prideofdetroit.com/2009/4...-matthews-test
I don't see any credible sports sites reporting this yet. Lots of fan blogs reporting it.

Just saw an interview with Brandon Marshall on NFL network. Dude took two swipes at Cutler (not immature or vindictive) and looked like the mature LEADER that I have been hoping he would become.
Maybe this team will be ok afterall.

Does anyone know anything about the upcoming draft and the projections? I want the Colts at #27 to take WR Hakeem Nicks from North Carolina. I'm just not sure if he will be there at 27.

I'm a mock draft junkie. Hicks has been there at #27 in most recent mock drafts, but has also gone as high as #22 (Minny) or #25 (Miami).
In reality, I think Crabtree will be the first wide receiver picked, and after that you've got a group of five or six guys that could go anywhere in the first round: Maclin, Hayward-Bey, Harvin, Nicks, Robiskie, and Britt. I think any of the last three guys would be a good fit for the Colts, and I'm sure that at least one will be there for them at #27. But if either of the late-round DTs (Ziggy Hood, Peria Jerry) are there, I think they have to take him and grab a WR in the 2nd or 3rd round.

I think this is the first time in five years that I haven't cracked out on the mock drafts, and I have no idea why. Maybe its because I'm noticing they're never, ever even remotely close to being right about the Saints.

I think the WR's will go Crabtree, Maclin, Robiskie.
Nicks was unable to run at the combine, and there are questions about his speed anyway. That may hurt his stock on draft day, but he's going to be a pretty good WR I think.
Robiskie looked like Eddie Royal at the combine. Someone is going to jump on that guy early.
Maclin may end up being the best player of all the WR's IMO. Smart, smart kid.

With the Cutler trade it looks like this increases the odds that the Chiefs will be taking Aaron Curry with the #3 pick. Seems like the Lions will be taking Stafford #1 and the Rams will look for an offensive lineman with the 2 pick. Reviews on Curry are mostly positive and linebackers are a big part of a 3-4 defence. Unfortunately his main knock is that he's not a great pass rusher and that is something the Chiefs defence lacks. Hell the Chiefs could probably use 5 of the top 10 picks in this draft and still suck.

Where did you get that information on Stafford? Everything I have heard recently has the Lions taking Smith or Monroe with the first pick. At least that is the thinking on Sirius. It seems like Stafford's stock has been plummeting recently.

Apparently he had an extremely good pro-day workout on campus that had the "draft gurus" buzzing (OT - I loathe Mel Kiper). Also, the Lions were supposedly working him out by himself in Detroit to get a better handle on him.
I think the Baylor OT is the better pick - as a former TE, his foot work is going to be excellent and he's been very strong throughout the combine and workout schedules. Also, he will likely be easier and cheaper to sign before the draft, which as a Raiders fan, I can say is something very appealing about a draft pick.
The Rams pick, for me, is the most interesting. They could really use an heir to Bulger and this would be a good year to get that successor. They also missed out on an OT last year and with Pace out, they need a new franchise OT. But, they also have defensive needs and I've heard/read talk that they have looked strongly at WR because of Holt's departure.
As for the Chiefs, I think they're crazy to take Curry. Get a DE for a pass rush or take one of the numerous solid OT's in the draft to protect your new "stud" QB.
The Raiders pick will once again be a wasted pick - Machlin or Crabtree. Sigh.

Evidently, Jeff Garcia is very close to signing with the Raiders.

I don't know what I think about this. In the right scenario, Garcia can be more than functional. In the wrong scenario (Philly or Cleveland) he can be completely ineffective. He doesn't strike me as a mentor type QB and I always thought that he would rather retire than go to a strict backup role. Perhaps he's in the running as the starter? If so, the Raiders really mangled their strategy with Russel.
Additionally, Garcia's arm strength is like Gannon's and is more effective in a west coast style offense - something Skeletor hated under Gruden. So it doesnt seem like a good fit.
