maybe he knows that another coach is going to want to fundamentally rebuild his forehand and backhand setup, and he doesn't want to go through the pain?

Damian Kust is a great follow on twitter, by the way. He watches a ton of matches on both the ATP and Challenger tours.

Bianca should be on court shortly as ADF just eliminated Borges in straight sets.

Off to Estoril for Borges to play in that big Challenger event.

Bianca loses 6-3 6-2 to Rybakina, but I don't think the set scores reflect that this was a pretty close match. It got away a little bit from Bianca in set 2, but there's a reason why Rybakina is close to the top of the women's game (I think she recently dropped out of the top 10).

Maybe Felix should join him, I think he made the final of Estoril a few years back (I think he lost to Korda if memory serves).
Edit: FAA has indeed taken a wildcard for Estoril.

Also, it was 2022 when he lost to Korda, but it was a quarter-final.

Well, it's a new day and already better tennis results from Madrid:
Shapo defeats Kei Nishikori 6-1 6-4
Gabriel Diallo over Kamil Majchrzak 7-5 4-6 6-4

Matteo Arnaldi plays a great match and eliminates 3-time Madrid champ Novak Djokovic 6-3 6-4.

Tommy Paul takes out Joao Fonseca in two tie-breakers. Fonseca should have probably won the opening set (had two set points), but Tommy Paul showed his experience on the big points today.

at some point you can't just keep saying your focus is only on slams, when you're getting barely any match play leading up to them. I'm going to go ahead and say he's officially cooked on all slow surfaces, and will only threaten on fast courts where he can swing for the fences and not have to grind.
This is probably a gentler sunset than what Roger and Rafa had to go through, being crippled for a full two years before having to lower the curtain.

In retrospect, it certainly makes winning the gold medal in Paris last year in that thrilling final over Charlie all the more incredible, don't you think?
Novak is certainly not the player he used to be and I think a big part of it is guys actually think they have a chance to beat him which is a fairly recent (last 12 months or so) development. I think Novak could still make a good run at Wimbledon, the points are usually shorter and he is still serving well.
We need to get Sinner back and Charlie to stay healthy though because I fear Zverev might just get a slam and I'm not going to be happy if it happens.

How is Zverev still in this tournament? He just double-faulted, ADF hit a return not knowing it was going to be a double fault, and out of anger Zverev hits a backhand and struck a ball kid. That should be an automatic default.
Edit: I guess it must have just missed the ball kid even though the announcers said the kid was hit. Maybe Mohamed Lahyani missed it or gave Zverev a pass? At any rate, Zverev moves on over ADF.

A nation wide power outage in Spain has cancelled all matches today...
For reasons beyond the control of the organisation and in order to guarantee general safety, the nationwide power-cut experienced in Spain on Monday 28 April has forced the cancellation of both the day and night sessions at the Mutua Madrid Open.

Shapo goes out to De Minaur 6-3 7-6(3).
Meanwhile Diallo has just taken the 2nd set over Norrie 6-4 after losing the 1st 2-6 while committing a litany of sloppy UEs.

Talk about taking advantage of the very late lucky loser given to him. It's great to see.
