My family and I have done the following this summer: outdoor swimming lessons (2 weeks, some days including sunburn!), 4 mountain hikes, Calaway park multiple times, outdoor soccer camp, Stampede breakfasts, and walked 5 of the big parks in Calgary. And on most of these outings it was busy with other people. Not a ####ty summer at all.

Yes the rains impact things (like you said with Folk Fest) but there’s been lots of opportunities to do things as well, from the end of school. Canadians do things in inclement weather. Obviously it’s not ideal and we’d all love a warm, sunny time. But it’s been anything but a ####ty summer.

Heavy rain does reduce PM2.5 levels locally.

These are surprisingly great on rainy days. They crank the pool temperatures to compensate.

The astute observer will have noticed that there’s a dramatic variance in how many people you see doing stuff outside on any given day, and that this variance correlates strongly with the weather. They will also notice that far more people take time off work in July and August than in April and May - this is conjecture, but maybe it’s because it’s typically hot and sunny in July and August, and most people find that nice weather to do stuff outside in.

We’re well past the ‘enough moisture to stave off drought’ stage and into the ‘bad summer for all sorts of organizations and people’ phase.

The folk festival will likely fall well short of sellouts this weekend. That will impact their gate receipts, which in turn will reduce how much money they have to spend on acts next year. I expect facilities like Heritage Park will also suffer from low attendance and revenue this summer. Same with events like charity runs. The hundreds of cancellations in sports leagues have already been mentioned.

This is shaping up to be a ####ty summer for all but some contrarian weirdos.
Rain, shine, this doesn’t read like someone who spends much time outside either way.

Go for a run, nerd.

My daughter just sent me pictures of ducks swimming in the Folk Fest beer garden.

The astute observer will notice less people are outside when it rains! And for someone who has openly said the reason they post is because he likes to take contrarian viewpoints labeling anyone that does it a weirdo is fun.

Could you please explain that in 4-5 paragraphs and cite your sources, like a normal (not weirdo) person would?

I have to admit I was outside at an event while it rained today and it was full of contrarian weirdos. A shocking amount of contrarian weirdos. Of course this was my first time outside so it was frightening.

Of all the things in life I could complain about, less than ideal weather is way down on the list. Congrats on your nearly perfect life if it's one of your main concerns.

Thanks for that. I was unreasonably being angry at rain.

Mostly due to the balding. Rain on a balding head feels awful. Every drop seems too miss the hair and then run down whatever cornice/crevasse of your pumpkin.

I definitely don’t miss the smoke and the pouch sweat.

As we learned many, many moons ago in the 'the legs dont take care of themselves' thread, merely becoming sodden does not necessarily equate to being 'clean.'

Unless the Fire Department is out there hosing them down with some outstanding pressure and those people who clean wildlife from Oil Spills are called in...the hygienic aspect is still questionable at best.
