Gasquet is extremely talented, and he probably would have had a chance if Kevin Anderson didn't already happen. But Novak looked very dialed in today and if he's dialed in again Friday I don't see any way Gasquet beats him unless he plays at an absurdly high level.
Curious to see the Maria-Serena match tomorrow. Not for the match itself because I think Serena will destroy Maria (double bagel maybe?), but to see if Maria gets time violations like Vasek did, seeing as she's the worst offender in the game (along with Nadal).

Gonna have to catch this match on Wimbledon Primetime tonight, sounds like Gasquet dug deep to upset Stan.

Serena will easily beat Maria, for the thousandth time. It shows how bad the women's game is today that Maria continues to get this far. She double faults 10 times per match and has double the amount of errors to winners yet nobody except Serena can beat her.

It was a very good match and some of the one handed backhand rallies were sublime. Almost a dinosaur match because we won't see two guys ripping one handed backhands much in the future.

This is why it's sort of foolish to give up on Genie right now. Women's game is so weak once she steadies her confidence she can make it back (if she diversifies the game as well). Radwanska won yesterday with 13 winners while Keys had over 50. Women's tennis is more drama filled than mens but the quality difference is pretty huge.

First service game Maria has 3 double faults. This is going to be ugly. Muguruza takes out Radwanska and I'd give Muguruza a fighting chance against Serena.

that sucks, the Davis Cup has turned into a joke.
A Djokovic-less Serbia travels to Argentina
Kazakhstan travels to Australia
France play Great Britain at Queens. That's th de facto Final!
and in European Group 1, Russia are making Spain travel to Vladivostok

They should just turn it into the tennis version of the Ryder Cup, have it every other year and have Europe take on the rest of the World as a two week tournament with both men and women. That could have some real interest in it I would think. But yeah at present both the Fed Cup and Davis Cup are pretty much useless.

I do like how there are home and away ties but the tennis calendar is just too congested for the men. 4 majors plus 9 masters 1000 is a long season.

The state of women's tennis is definitely concerning. Who is the next great player?

If Mugaruza wins tomorrow, it'll be her. But yeah the numbers are really small.

What a sensational first set from Roger, 23 winners, 3 errors, 85% first serves in, wins it 7-5 with the late break. He's turned back the clock to nearly peak levels.

Murray played great in that opening set, but Roger is Roger...

That could be the match changer. Andy rallies from 0-40 and 3 set points down and saves a few more set points. Gotta be a huge confidence jolt for him.

That 15 minute game at 4-5 was crazy good. Then Roger serves and takes just over a minute to win his service game.

The last few years when something bad like that (blowing the set points) happened to Federer, he usually didn't respond very well. What a response there as he again breaks Andy at 6-5 to win the set. If this is a straight set win for Roger it might be the greatest straight set match ever. That set point was insanely good.
