The point you are trying to make does not have very good evidence. If you were mad and came running at my hard elbow, I doubt that you could do much either...

I think the forwards are okay, they look pretty good. I'm so on the fence about Backlund.

On the one hand, he's a skilled player, and we have a new coach that pushes young guys and will hopefully create a game that skilled players can blossom into. On the other hand, if we keep him his value could depreciate big time if he doesn't rise to the occasion and at a time that it could be maximized now in a package with Bouwmeester.

Unless Backlund makes huge improvements this year, I would say he HAS to go. I think it would be a HUGE mistake to try to turn him into a 3rd liner. He is too weak, passive, and is constantly being dominated in the defensive zone. Hopefully he can get his offence where it needs to be or else we are looking at yet another bust.

I keep hearing Hudler won't succeed without the Detroit cast, but looking at some of those highlights, seems not so bad. He is contributing to the play, not just benefitting from the play of others. He also appears to have pretty good finish when being set up. I think its a good signing.

No, he didn't swat him away. He elbowed him in the face like a prick. It doesn't matter if it was Mats Naslund elbowing Shawn Thornton, that is going to make you fall to the ice or do something else that inhibits you from fighting.

Wow... came on to see if there were any statements from the Hudler camp on his signing with Calgary and low and behold, an argument of Malkin and Glencross.

All this crap on CP about fata threads and people posting wrong forums but this crap is accepted.

34 pages, can anyone point out where the Hudler discussion ends and the derail of this thread begins so I can get the latest on this signing? Or do I need to filter through 19 pages, where I left off?

I like this move, but I'm even happier that it shows a shift in the kinds of players that this GM is targeting compared to the old regime. Calgary added a guy who comes in with arguably the best pure skillset on the team for a reasonable 4M+ price tag. Good stuff - especially the willingness to be open-minded about adding an admittedly smaller, but skilled player to the team.

With Hudler and Wideman, and the additons of Baertschi and Cervenka to the line up this is one of the better offensively skilled Flames team we've seen in some time.

In terms of the size, I mean … we really feel that we have to up our skill level,’’ explained general manager Jay Feaster during a conference call introducing the new four-year, US$16-million Flame. “To the extent that you can upgrade your skill and if you can do with a guy 7-feet tall, that’s great. But more than worrying about how big we are, how tall we are, what our size measurement is, we want skilled players.
“We feel that skilled players, and particularly a player as dynamic as Jiri is, creates space. That’s one of the thing we talked about with Cervenka. He’s able to play in traffic and he does create space for himself.

It also shows that even though the Flames haven't made the playoffs in 3 yrs ( or whatever) we can still draw some free agents. The fact that past players ( bert) still talk good about the organization is a good thing too.
