What will we do when Tij requests a trade out of Calgary?

That's fair.

I've read multiple reports of him having explicitly "top pairing" upside, while others in that group had top four or some variation. While he wasn't an offensive dynamo this year it seems like scouts love the kids tools & upside.

This guy is also tough to figure. Here is the deal, he showed a flash of offensive ability at the start of his season, if you think he can develop into a guy who can make a good first pass out of his zone and there is room to develop his shot and when to pinch he is an absolute unicorn and a stud of a pick. I have never seen a guy that size with that kind of skating and edgework. If he doesn't put it all together you still get a big guy that projects to be a really good shut down guy. If he develops his skill game though, oh boy....

Am I the only one who noticed Tij played center today?

Tij out on the ice leading the team with 1 minute left up by 1. That says a lot about what the coaches think of his 2 way game.

Yes but then he had a couple of bonehead plays.

First one he had the puck in deep and tried to shoot from the goal line and missed which led to the puck being rushed up ice by the Swedes and more time in the D zone when he could have just kept the puck deep and killed precious time off the clock.

Second after a D zone face off win he had oodles of time to get the puck and clear the zone, instead he tripped over his own skates which led to a turn over and more D zone time and chances against.

He's also on the 1st PK unit

Seems like you're hyper focused on negatives. In scenario one he muscled two guys off the puck and won it prior to doing that. Then he stopped button hooked and got the pass along the wall after one of the dmen broke up the rush you mentioned. Then killed the remaining time off thr clock.

In scenario 2 he did trip, but then beat the guy for the puck on the boards and sent it in for the captain, who the Swedish player clearly interfered with but the refs called icing.

It's just what I noticed while watching the game. Chances to kill crucial time off the clock, while the team was literally reeling, squandered. Luckily it didn't cost them.

As each day goes on in the U18 I’m less and less confident that Tij will be available at 9. If I’m a scout, I know I’m getting a kid who’s got an NHL upbringing and genetics.

It's tough, though. For every Zach Parise, there's a Ryan Sittler.

Ryan Sittler was a bit of a weird case though because he went from playing U.S. high school hockey in his draft year to being a top-10 pick (and, of course, he was drafted more than 30 years ago).

You want a Sam Reinhart, you get Max Reinhart. Luckily you avoided Griffin Reinhart.

If there's one player that will go earlier it's Tij with the recent upswing and pedigree. Won't be supprised at all if he's is the third forward taken.

Hah, what a joke. That's why every single coach preaches offensive hockey, right?

Goal suppression is absolutely equal to goal creation. Love it or leave it.

Seems similar to when I was a kid. Everyone was conveniently an Avs, Wings, Flyers or Pens fan. Well that or whatever expansion team was deemed to have the coolest colours/logo.

Of course scoring goals is hard. No player is going to score a goal every game, but it is easy to be responsible for a goal against every game if you are not committed to goal suppression and are just focused on scoring goals. If you're not good at goal suppression and playing responsible defense, it's very easy to be a net negative player on a team. It doesn't matter if it is easier or not, the only thing that matters is that they are good at it and willing to do it.
