I did it a couple years ago, I liked it. The swing assessment is pretty good they give you a link to the video, you get a quick fix and some drills to work on. You also will get a quote for a lesson plan.

Be warned though GolfTEC packages are extremely expensive.

I figure $95 for the swing assessment is good for now. They have packages for the short game, putting and course strategies too, right? I suppose those are the expensive ones.

For now, I am looking to get good mechanics on my swing so that it becomes more reliable for me.

I played VR last weekend. It's in pretty good shape, greens rolled nice and the rough is pretty thick.

VR is way more gimmicky than Springbank. It probably has the most penal bunkering around the green complexes that you will find in Calgary. It is not a place for high handicappers at all. 13 is a great example of this. Water right, deep bunkers left. Miss the green left and not only are you faced with a shot from a deep bunker you are playing to an elevated green that slopes away from the bunker towards water. 15 has the same type of bunkers and water right behind the green.

It's probably one of, if not the, hardest public course in Calgary.

It's massively overpriced for what the course is. I'd play Delacour over VR 10 times out of 10.

I'd play any course in Calgary (outside shag and mcCall obviously) over VR for that price.

Has anyone played Redwood this year? Drove by there the other day and decided I'm gonna play it in the next coming weeks.

Used to play it all the time... Really miss that course. Probably in my top 3 courses I've played in Alberta. Unfortunately I haven't played it post flood.

Headed down to New Zealand next week and decided to bring the clubs with me. I can't even begin to describe my excitement over the fact that I get to play these two courses.

A couple courses that seemed to have dropped their price.
Heritage Pointe-$85 after noon on weekends.$55 after 3:00 weekends.
Wolf Creek.I recall the Old Course charging $100.00 + cart.
Links or Old for $100 including cart now
Post them if you got 'em

Wow, curious to see if that is permanent at heritage. Hasn't heritage pointe always been a course where you never have an issue getting a tee time? The place is never full from what I can tell. Just way too expensive.

That is a great deal for Heritage Pointe. When I was in University, 12 years ago, I worked at there for two summers. The course was always busy back then and it seemed like they were always close to selling out all the tee times. There were some days where we could get a tee time around 3:30 or 4pm and the course was dead. I remember being able to do 24 or 25 holes in just over 4 hours before it got too dark.

$55 doesn't include a cart though. Their green fees were inclusive previously. When did they start charging additional fees for use of a cart?

What a fun little track Trochu is.Best greens I've played this year until I got to Innisfail.
Innisfail is pristine throughout.

Played the Canal last night. 2:45 round which was awesome.

Shot 97, 2 8's and a 7 pretty much killed my round.

Play Innisfail on the weekend. Best course in central AB in my mind, although I haven't played Red Deer G&CC. The new clubhouse is very nice. Conditioning is fantastic at the moment. Greens are great, however greens on the second nine we played were significantly slower than the first which threw a wrench into my putting confidence!

Played Banff Springs on the weekend for a friend's bachelor party. What a beautiful course.... nice views and nice, open fairways throughout.

The greens were freshly aerated, so the ball was skipping and bouncing all over.

A big thing that stood out was the grounds crew. They were out at 11am to 1pm on Saturday, spraying water on the greens while we were playing. At one point, the guy looked up at us and motioned for us to play into him (with his hard hat on), while him and his fire hose walked around the green soaking it down. The drenched greens played like crap, you'd have to double your power and the ball was actually shooting up a rooster tail while it rolled. It was also overcast and raining constantly.

Does this seem incredibly unprofessional for such an expensive course?

Always heard good things about Innisfail but haven't had the opportunity yet.

2 other central Alberta gems:

Lacombe - http://www.golflacombe.com/ - fantastic value

Ponoka - http://ponokagolf.com/

Yep, +1 for Ponoka. Pine Hills in Rocky Mountain House is a great track as well.

Played it last year.

Was very unimpressed and I only had to pay ~$90 too. I don't think it lives up to its reputation outside of views.
