Prospect Tourney just got boring without any shiny new baubles either.
Still.... DOUGIE HAMILTON.

Also because my Oilers co-worker was so sure that the Oilers were going to get Hamilton.
Then here come the Flames from nowhere

Think this was it.
Other teams were probably hesitant to move picks this year, and were playing the offer sheet card knowing the Bruins were in cap trouble.
Treliving was aggressive and closed the deal while others were sitting on their hands.

So this is what Oiler's fan's feel like on draft day. No wonder they love tanking!

Why not sign him to a four year deal and still have him as an RFA at 26?

If you had asked me the other day what it would take to trade for Hamilton today I would have said Gaudreau.
Same age, proven to have similar impact, but Hamilton plays arguably the more important position.
To do this without moving one of our young studs is amazing.

Shock and awe. So used to trades being cringeworthy at best for the Flames.
This? This puts a smile on my face.

on Hamilton deal, Calgary reached out to Boston right after season ended. Both teams kept in touch. Talk got heated last 2 days

Came to post this, but you beat me to it. Since I looked it up, here's the relevant part of the CBA (50.8.b.iv):
Quote:
An SPC with a term of greater than seven (7) years, provided, however, that a Club may sign a Player to an SPC with a term of up to eight (8) years if that Player was on such Club's Reserve List as of and since the most recent Trade Deadline. With respect to potential Unrestricted Free Agents only, the ability to re-sign a Player to an SPC of eight (8) years expires when the Player becomes an Unrestricted Free Agent. With respect to a Player who becomes a Group 2 Restricted Free Agent, a Club may sign such Player to an SPC with a term of up to eight (8) years provided such Player was on such Club's Reserve List and/or Restricted Free Agent List as of and since the most recent Trade Deadline.

Now you get on the phone with Chia and tell him, if you're thinking of offer sheeting him, go for it, we'll match because we can , and then when McDavid hits his RFA status we'll offer sheet him to a ridiculous level and drive his price into the stratosphere and you'll have to match it or see McDavid in Red and Black.
then hang up the phone and mutter
"jacka$$"

This trade is solid, don't see how you can possibly complain. It's not outright thievery, but it's a low-risk proposition.

Part of reason Flames picked up extra draft picks at trade deadline was because they wanted to go after a young d-man this off-season

My Oilers buddy is pissed! He thought for sure that Edmonton would land him. Wondering if the Edmonton offer sheet rumors pissed of Sweeney so he just gave them a big middle finger?

I'm going to go with 'cautiously optimistic'. I went nuts when Sutter pulled off Bouwmeester and am a little gun shy on supposed "slam dunk" deals....

Monahan, Bennett, Gaudreau, Brodie and Hamilton all 25 or under. That's how you build a team.

this is probably the ideal scenario, unless you can lock him in for longer at a low number. Cap's only going to keep going up so a good deal now will be an even better deal later on a guy with his ceiling

I'm going to watch McDavid pull on an Oilers sweater with a smile on my face now.
Treliving is the Alka Seltzer to my draft lottery headache.

Looks like it's a Kings / Ducks / Flames free for all in the Pacific next year.
