Pretty close, but the convenience store lady doesn't have a full dictionary, just a '100 ways to ask why you and your wife haven't had a baby yet' phrase book. And I'll probably throw in some floral patterned sofa cushions. The floral pattern hides the stains pretty nicely.

I'm still trying to figure out how NBC can brand their coverage as "Live" when the events have happened 3-4 hours earlier? I guess it must be a live Bob Costas in the booth. hehe
With 13 medals now Canada is tied for 12th with the Netherlands for total medals.

It's not live for us in Calgary because we're on the West Coast. It's live on the East Coast. That's how American primetime tv is.

I believe that is correct.
83 has different coverage than 16 and is over about 3 hours sooner which makes sense.

But on the HD channels isn't it just shown on the regular time? We get both the east and west coast channels 202 and 207. So we should still be able to see it live, if they show it.

Hey Octo, what do you mean by last olympic softball game ever played? Has this been removed for 2012 and beyond?
(If so that is a shame...they should begin by paring events where the judges pick a winner first, and leave the real sports there for the medals).

It has been removed for 2012 but they are meeting next year for a vote. If the US gets knocked off they might have a chance, but if they dominate again then it might have a chance.
If I were the Americans I would put in all the subs and hope for the best.

That "live" thing caught me on Saturday. I was watching NBC with my inlaws (Shaw channel 16) waiting to see Phelps go for his 8th gold medal. "Live" was superimposed in the top right corner of the broadcast.
Well, it's getting close to midnight and I'm getting sleepy. I log on to CP to pass some time and try and stay awake. Lo and behold the results are already plastered all over the Beijing Olympics Thread. That's when I recall the NBC time delay discussion from earlier and realize I wasn't about to watch history unfold live before my eyes.
NBC is subscribing to the live as in "Cheers is taped before a live studio audience" live. Piss off.

It's being removed because nobody other than the US ever wins, while baseball is being removed because the Olympics thought that they would get major leaguers, but MLB has never participated. And neither sport is being played significantly in europe or africa.
Though I would think that if Chicago wins the 2016 bid (which I think it will), the IOC would vote to reinstall the sports since they'd be a big draw.

NBC's main mistake is..they treat the Olympics not as a live sporting event (like the NBA Finals or the World Series) but as a primetime tv show. Using your Cheers example, Cheers can be seen at 9pm Eastern/8pm Central AND 9pm Pacific.
---
For the baseball/softball thing cities were complaining that nobody in Sydney, Athens and Beijing went to the game and the baseball/softball facilities could not be reused because nobody in those countries play the sports so it was a waste.

Getting a silver in diving is absolutely awesome for Canada considering how dominating the Chinese are in that sport. What'd that other Chinese guy get in the finals? Like 11 perfect 10s? Despatie didn't even participate in the preliminaries earlier because he fractured his foot! Great job.

Yup! He had a broken bone in his foot and couldn't train for awhile. I was a little worried about his poor showing in the prelims, but he really came through. He was on his game throughout the semis and that really carried over to the finals.

I thought that the fact that Baseball is generally a more expensive stadium, and that most Olympic cities usually need to build a stadium was a big factor in them taking it out of the Olympics. But as you say if Chicago was to get the Olympics in 2016..they may look to bring it back.

I wouldn't be as upset if they continued to show it in prime time IFF they removed that "live" thing from the top corner. It's not live. Time-delayed maybe. Not live.

I thought baseball was removed to the the MLB drug policy (or lack of one) and the fact the MLB does not want to shut down the league so the professionals can play.
As for softball I am not sure why it is being removed?

It's at least partially a gender issue. The IOC is trying to get away from having too many single-gender sports (which is why in the Winter Games for example, Women's biathalon, hockey, and luge have been added since Calgary hosted). They want to have both a men's and women's version of each sport, or at least an equivalent between the two. Since softball is the female equivalent of baseball, when they decided to scrap baseball, softball got the axe too.

Bolt is just on a completely different level.
Ran the last 40 metres like it was the first lap of a 800m race and was still holding his own with the American.

US and Japan are tied at 0 going into the 7th. Neither team has been close to scoring a run, so it's hard to imagine this one ending soon.

WHIFF!
I think this one is going to eventually end on that silly international start the inning with a girl on 2nd base rule.
