If I was the Blackhawks, I would offer up either one 37 y/o Duncan Keith or 35 y/o Brent Seabrook for the 22 y/o William Nylander.

And what makes you think the Leafs would be interested in a player being paid $5.5M+ who will be 40 at the end of his contract?

He left out the part where Bowman puts his Gnomish Mind Control Cap on and uses it on Dubas.

Well, they haven't won the Cup in over 50 years and it looks like this is the year for them to load up go for it all, **while they have both Auston Matthews & Mitchell Marner in the last season of their ELC's.

Duncan Keith (he is actually 35) still plays at a decent level, although this is certainly not the price that Toronto would pay for him. Keith might just help them win a Stanley Cup.

Seabrook would only hurt their chances.

I'm secretly hoping they make a deal, but the paper work doesnt go through smoothly and they miss the deadline.

I think something like this happened with some Chicago players a few years back.

You said the Leafs were pissing away a shot at the Cup. That implies that they have no chance of winning without Nylander, and a pretty good chance of winning with him. So yeah, you did say that.

If I recall the Flames had a deal where they were going to trade Stoll (who would re-enter the draft) and the fax machine broke or something.

I remember that too. Worked out ok for Stoll he got drafted by Edmonton (not good) but won a Stanley Cup with Los Angeles.

Nuance is lost on the relentlessly literal.

Trying to misrepresent what I said a second time to suit your purposes? Like I said, please stop doing that.

Kudos to Nylander. He has the balls to sit it out. He wants to get what he deserves and rightfully so.

Real money has NOTHING to do with this. That .4% of cap is all that matters (not this year, but the next 5 yrs).

You know what happens when you don't fret over every 0.1% of the cap? You are the Oilers. In cap hell with nothing to show for it.

Yes, but there are still multiple years left in the contracts of both Keith and Seabrook, and they will only become harder to trade to some other team a year from now. IMO, the Leafs will need to look closely at players in the final year of their contracts.

Yes, you are right, he will turn 40 one month after the end of his current contract.

That is just about the only outcome that justifies this coverage. I cant remember the last sign and trade. Any of the CP braintrust know?

I would love to see it.

How about a bridge, which would give them more time to shop him around?

Hossa for Heatley was the biggest one I can remember. Both were RFAs at the time.

Don't think a sign and trade happens. The cap complications of a RFA signing this late make it unlikely.
