You're mis-remembering. Punching stopped after they got pulled apart. He got one swing in as the linesman stepped in to pull them apart.
It's bush as ####, don't get me wrong. But I think 14 minutes is about the right amount. It could have been a major, maybe, but I don't think that's right. I just don't see it being a suspension either.

The play was still on. He was tracking the puck and starting to head up ice when Kassian grabbed him from behind. What did you want, for him to stop playing and wait to see if Kassian wanted to fight?

I hated the sequence. Tkatchuk throws the big hit, McDavid pounds tkatchuk from behind, then kassian begins his solo melee from behind. Nobody goes after McDavid, who was right in there.
Too much respect in this league. It's such a soft game now.

Yup, throwing a clean hit should get you horse tackled from behind and then have punches thrown at you when you're in a vulnerable position.
