The Quest stands upon the edge of a knife. Stray but a little, and it will fail, to the ruin of all. Yet hope remains while the Company is true. Go Flames Go!
Without knowing any comics precedent for it, I am neither for it ir against it. Just confused by it.
Downy Jr is the actual Marvel Jesus. You don't pull a stunt like that without having a solid story plan.
There would be plenty of actors lining up for that role.

It's already confirmed that Fantastic Four takes place in a different universe. The story plan, although not especially creative, writes itself. In the FF universe, Stark becomes Doom somehow. Maybe he's adopted or switched at birth. Although Victor Von Doom being born into an Eastern European gypsy family is pretty key to his character. Doom has also switched bodies with people in the past. It's possible that to cure himself of his scars, he switches bodies into Tony Stark's in his universe. Doom also practices magic.
RDJ is instantly more watchable in any role than Jonathan Majors, whose appeal I never quite understood at all, so I'm curious to see how it shakes out, but this and the big surprise cameo in Deadpool just make it feel like they're really out of ideas.
Majors was excellent as an abusive and violent a-hole in Creed 3. Turns out he was pretty great in that role, because that's what he's like in real life.
It's a bad look to drop a major storyline like the Kang one, but it was not especially popular, and, regardless of Major's issues, it was likely to sink the MCU. Pivoting away from Majors is the right move. Pivoting back to RDJ seems bat**** crazy. But we'll see how it works out.
Deadpool and Wolverine was a lot of fun. I don't take these movies all that seriously and I thought they did a reasonably good job of keeping the stakes involved at least somewhat meaningful and not too much multiverse crap.
The bits with the dog were the only parts that dragged for me.
Probably my cynical nature, but I honestly think RDJ being announced is a fake news stunt. I dunno, maybe Disney had nothing concrete to bring to Comic-Con/buying more time. Or they're misdirecting on purpose.
Deadpool & Wolverine was a lot of fun. Thoroughly enjoyed it, and that’s the first bit of Disney/Marvel entertainment I can say that about in the last few years.
I doubt RDJ is a fake news stunt. I expect he’ll do an excellent job.
Kind of sold out crawling back to RDJ to play savior yet again for what I'm sure was a handsome offer. Reminds me of the Flames going back to Sutter. And yet... my curiosity is piqued again for something MCU related. At least for that specific film.
They're claiming RDJ wanted this but I'm sure Disney were driving the boat here/backing up the truck.
Variety is saying Disney is paying the Russos 80m for the next two Avengers movies and RDJ "considerably more" than that.
From the sounds of it RDJ had a pretty hard line in the sand about not playing Tony Stark again, as he wanted to keep the "sacrifice" legit. I guess he never said he wouldn't play Doctor Doom though....It's pretty wild if Disney is willing to pay in the $100+ million range for RDJ to be a villain. The villain doesn't even star in any of the movies.
RDJ was in the running to play Doom in the 2008 F4 movie, so this is kind of a full circle moment in a way. From what I've read it definitely looks as though this Doom we are getting in the next Avengers movie is a Tony Stark variant. Hopefully they really nail the story and delivery because as others have said, Von Doom literally IS Doom.. no need to tarnish that if the story isn't as good/believable.
That being said, other than the money I have to believe that RDJ wouldn't take on this role if he didn't believe in the way they will reveal his character moving forward. Doom instead of Kang though.. sign me up. Can't wait to see how this all shakes out in the new F4 movie next year.
