Sounds a bit like the bidding war that Sather wanted to start up by leaking all this, hoping to get a first rounder tonight, fell flat. Oilers didn't bite, nor did the Flames.

He also won't be getting 2 second-round picks from the Flames or Oilers either since they both moved their excess picks and each only have one late second rounder now (and both still have two third rounders).

With that blue line, a chance at regular revenge vs Edmonton and Treliving's magic... I think if Dubnyk is a target, we will be top 2-3 on acquiring him the way we want to acquire him.

I don't know who we are chasing in terms of goalies, but I can't imagine Hiller sleeping well at night.

Flames need to be significantly improved over last year. At every position, including goaltending.

My gut tells me that Jones will be a flame by end of the day. Cant see Boston keeping Jones considering they have Rask and Jones wanted to go somewhere where he had a chance to be a #1. Going with Granlund and a 3 rd for Jones.

Apparently Jimmy Hayes has been offered by the Panthers for Talbot.
So say Talbot goes to Florida.
Lack to Carolina
Lehner to Buffalo
Anderson staying put
Jones likely is available or maybe signs there for 1 year?
Dubnyk all reports suggest will re-sign in Minny
Khubobin is available now but he's more of 1B goalie, maybe Coilers target him now?
Gibson in Anaheim remains
Hiller is said to be available
Anyone else available?
The Oilers might not get anyone. That would be funny. Unless they pay up for Andersson/Gibson. Or go after Ramo.
I'd be really happy with Orio claiming the #1 gig in training camp.

Lehtonen might be available but Stars would want to upgrade. Ward is a possibility as well given the Lack trade.

Ba ha ha! I'm way off.
Wow... so many teams looks so much more dangerous all of a sudden.
Now I lean towards maybe we look at Jones... but my track record has been terrible.

I figure everything is quiet now until July 1, but anyone think we'll be in on trying to get Gibson?
I mean, maybe the Ducks are just planning on putting Gibson in the minors and running with Andersen and Khudobin, but I'd think one of them is likely available.
I'm also not sure what Gibson would cost, but I'd be very interested in at least investigating it...
I really wanted Gibson or Jones, but I think the Bruins have Jones tagged as the backup to relieve Rask, so Gibson is the only option remaining...???

I almost guarantee the Flames interest in Talbot was bogus and put out there intentionally by the Flames to toy with the Oilers to drive up the trade value Edmonton would pay.

I agree with that - there should have been no scenario that Talbot would be of interest to the Flames... Kept Oiler's picks somewhat tied up too as opposed to being all in on Hamilton.
That being said, I'd still be interested in getting my mitts on Gibson - really high ceiling and Ducks may need to move a guy (though not sure they do it in their division).

After the draft, Murray was pretty adamant that he wasn't trading Gibson.
Quote:

The exact quote from Bob Murray was: "John Gibson is not getting traded … put that ####ing out there"
|
Gibson can still play 2 more seasons in the AHL without needing waivers. If Murray is true to his word, they may want Gibson to get more action next year and plan to have him play primarily in San Diego. One nice thing for them with the new AHL alignment is that they can bring him up every so often to play a game or two in Anaheim and it's only a 2 hour(ish) drive from San Diego rather than a cross-country flight from Virginia.

I would hope that Treliving has better things to do than put out bogus trade offers just to toy with the oilers. Seems kind of ridiculous actually.

It's part of Brad's job, all it takes 1 text message to Darren Dreger et al by Brad or one of his 10 other support crew.

Misdirection is definitely a part of the business. If everyone is paying attention to your left hand that's carrying lit sparklers, no one sees the right hand come up and smack you on the side of the head. Which is exactly how the whole Talbot for 2 second rounders looks and then SMACK! Dougie Hamilton is a Flame.

OK - pipe dream then. Back to reality and just enjoying the draft we just had.

I hear what you're saying, but it wouldn't have been to toy with them, rather to keep them busy on more than one front while we were focusing on the big prize (Hamilton).
On the other hand, we may just be making stuff up...
