My history professor once told the class that for twenty years he thought the line in "Theme from Shaft" went: "He's a carpet cleaning man" (real lyric: he's a complicated man). Almost died laughing over that one.

My wife used to tell her mother that Nirvana's "Rape Me" was actually "Rake Me", a song about an angry gardener. Funny part is her mom actually believed it.

I was eight years old when For The Longest Time by Billy Joel came out. I thought he was saying "fungus mungus time". Then, after not hearing the song for a few years, I heard it again, and was shocked that I could actually get the lyrics wrong.

Spoiler!

One of my favorite songs of all time and yet I have never known or looked up the words to those two lines. Looked them up for the first time today, and although I never even had a guess as to what he was saying, if I had guessed this wouldn't have been close. I probably would have got the last word of each line and nothing else.

When I was a kid I always heard Billy Idol's Eyes Without A Face as How's About A Date?
