The Captain of the 380 was on the 747 that had the engine problems too, lol.

Still he has been praised for the calm handling of the 380 mid-air crisis, you can hear it on the video.

3 more A380s have been found with engine anomalies. Fleet will remain grounded for awhile longer. Seems to be an issue with oil in the engine where it shouldn`t be
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20101108/ts_nm/us_qantas

EASA had previously put out an airworthiness directive against the Trent 900 related to oil migration. Maybe someone missed the memo?
Quote:
Wear, beyond Engine Manual limits, has been identified on the abutment faces of the splines on the Trent 900 Intermediate Pressure (IP) shaft rigid coupling on several engines during strip. The shaft to coupling spline interface provides the means of controlling the turbine axial setting and wear through of the splines would permit the IP turbine to move rearwards.
Rearward movement of the IP turbine would enable contact with static turbine components and would result in loss of engine performance with potential for in-flight shut down, oil migration and oil fire below the LP turbine discs prior to sufficient indication resulting in loss of LP turbine disc
integrity. Some of these conditions present a potential unsafe condition to the aeroplane.
From a good analysis on the problems with the Trent 900 and the A380

FTA: "Analysts said if the airline's six A380 planes were grounded beyond a week, it could affect the company's profit forecast for this year."

As a not-so-hot flyer...quotes like that bug me.

Take it as a sign that the good airlines won't take any unecessary risks, despite the financial impact.

Rolls-Royce says the problem is specific to the Trent 900 engine:

The defect is specific to a single defect part in the Trent 900. Rolls royce's image is going to take a beating now.

EXCLUSIVE – Qantas QF32 flight from the cockpit

Added on 08 December 2010 by Tim Robinson

On 4 November Qantas flight QF32, an Airbus A380 outbound from Singapore, ran into serious problems when a turbine on its Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engine suffered an uncontained failure. We caught up with one of the five pilots onboard, who describes how the crew professionally dealt with the incident, the sequence of events, and how the most dangerous period was after they had landed:
