Not to detract from this amazing story, but they need the Count from Sesame Street doing his thing every time a minor is brought to the surface.

So, no counting then as I believe there is no child labour at this mine?

I was just going to ask why there hasn't been more outrage about having children work underground. Not to mention that the appear to be sending the adults up first.

For some reason I thought they'd be emaciated and weak but that second guy was jumping around like his pants were on fire . . . . . hilarious.
Heartwarming, feel-good story of the year. Congrats to Chile. The country needed a lift.

It's been an amazing rescue since back in August when it happened. Miners in general are in great shape and the news was saying that each of them had lost 20 pounds over the last few months. However, within a week or two of the collapse, officials were able to get food and medicine down there to keep everyone in decent shape.

What a story. I couldn't look away - our DVR was going to tape two shows at the same time and warned me it was going to change the channel - I cancelled a recording just to watch this. Reminds me (shows how old I am) of watching CNN for the Baby Jessica story (baby in the well).

Think that's a bit unfair, our politicians are just as nice and would be there hugging people in such a situation. One of the jobs of our government is to make sure things like this never happen in the first place, something the Chilean government has been blamed for over the past couple of months.

This story has been very cool to watch. Watching the first couple guys come up last night might have been the most compelling tv I have watched, ever...

As they say in the photo biz, this is "the money shot," an iconic image. . . . . second guy out, ran around, led a cheer with these other guys and then asked how his dog was doing. It's the cover shot in Chile and will probably be in a lot of places when this is done.

I just realized how scary it would be to be the last guy down there waiting over an hour to get pulled up. No thanks.

Mistresses and wives clash over hand-outs:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worl...an-miners.html
Authorities at Camp Hope have had to deal with a rush of women coming forward claiming to be first in the Chilean miners' affections in order to receive government handouts.
At least five wives have been forced to come face to face with mistresses whose existence was kept from them by their husbands, who have been trapped more than 2,300ft below since a cave in on August 5.
One miner has four women fighting over him in an effort to claim compensation offered to the families of those facing between three to four months underground until a rescue shaft can reach them.
I spent two months in Chile in 1994, and it seemed common in the culture for husbands to have mistresses.

I'd almost rather stay underground then dealing with that. No wonder they were fighting for who gets rescued last.

You've been stuck down there for 30 days with all guys. It might be time for a little private fwap.
