Wearing Aldo shoes right now that are 3 years old. Have been wearing them for work 5 days a week for the last year and the only problem now is I have scuffed them up some on the edges. Never clean, spray or do anything to them and they are comfy for me.

All I need is some black shoe polish and a good clean and they would look near new again.

I agree they are not the highest quality but I have never gone through even cheap ass shoes in 2 months.

I'm looking to pay similar prices for custom clothing. The poster "worth" told me about Giovanni's Tailor Shop in the NE. Anyone have experience there?
Giovanni does really good work.

I actually used a tailor in Willow park to make me a couple of suits and while his material selection is a bit limited, and mainly good for winter suits he did great work.

I'm learning my lesson with Aldo shoes. I'm now on my third pair in a year.

I think I need to start buying the real quality shoes. This is getting ridiculous already; with Aldo shoes, a gust of wind goes over them and they're chipped to ****.

I literally wore my $100 Aldo shoes for the first time last night. Garbage. I have brown spots all in the front and sides. The crap chipped off. I can maybe put cleaner on them, but those guys are headed for the trash

Aldo shoes are like shaving blades. Maybe that's their strategy. Cheap and high volume

I have a few pairs of dressier shoes that I paid well under $100 for and should last me a long time. Mind you, I don't dress up all that often. But even the shoes I wear every day last me several years, and I don't pay $100 for them either.

Unless they are shoes to wear with a suit, shoes don't even look good until they have got a few scuffs on them. I don't want my shoes to look brand new.

What I did with my wardrobe was I own 5 medium quality off the rack suits that I wear to everyday work and functions. I own three really high end suits that I had custom made and tailored.

The reason, I work in an environment thats more casual so there's no point in overdressing to a huge degree. But I want to ensure that I can meet with a higher end decision maker on an equal footing when I do external meetings.

That's not much in this economy.

To the other guy. What's the difference if I went to a Bank?

I have to work my butt off and pay my loan off every month, which is a lot

This thread makes me glad I'm not in a profession where I have to dress up....hell, I've never met half the people I work with. It can be pretty damn expensive to maintain, when you need to have 3-4 suits for work, with dress shirts, ties, shoes etc.

Though I do appreciate good quality clothing though and do follow the "higher quality, less quantity" approach.

Wait till you guys get Gilt....

No kidding, to me spoiled means a twelve year old with an iPhone. This reaches a whole echelon above spoiled.

Don't sweat it man. At the end of the day it's a giant waste of money. Typical millionaires/wealthy people don't spend like that. Usually the people that spend so frivilously can't afford to.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you a student? There has to be more to your story than "saving up" - my guess is either really high debt or familial wealth.

Honestly

I like to have a different suit for each day of the week, plus like I said two or three special occassion suits as well. Its easier on the wear and tear that I see where I person where's the same suit a couple of times a week.

One of my tailors tried to encourage me to try the sports coat, slacks casual look, but I just don't like it at all, it looks cheesy.

I used to also own a tuxedo but I cut that habit because the old captain don't do black tie anymore.

Holy crap I can't believe people think that's spoiled. I guess I'm out of touch with the rest of the world.

Everybody I know has had that help overall.

I think you may be in that category of people that think they're normal when they really aren't. I'm not saying anything about your work ethic, all I'm saying is that 300-600k is literally a sh*t-ton of money.

Edit: @worth - I can't wear pointy toed shoes ... It makes me feel like I'm wearing women's shoes.

Suits and that cost a lot.

4-5 suits with your shirt, tie, and shies is easily almost $10 000 or more
