They have been rediculous this year. I could barely sit out on a patio at a pub they kept surrounding me.

We've lived on an acreage southwest of the city for 12 years now and this is the first summer we've had mosquitoes as an issue into August.

They follow a rythem every year, the big, stupid ones emerge in June, followed by the small, quick and nasty one's into early and maybe mid July in a bad year.

But there are still clouds of them out there . . .

I've also still got a green lawn. Usually by this time the mosquitoes and the lawn are fried to hell by now.

It's annoying. Obviously, it's been a cooler and wetter than normal summer. Although the lawn is nice.

A crappy summer at my place below, a few days ago, after the rain . . .

Lots of people have told me its not normal. That I have some sort of allergic reaction to those pesky mosquitoes. Cause I always get decent size welts where they bite me.
I only get welts for the first 3 or 4 bites in a year. Then my body seems to normalize my reaction to them.

Then at the beginning of the next year my body has to re-learn again. It's kinda like having a flu shot, or developing a resistance.

Though everyone was kinda like that, but guess not.

I played a early game of golf at McCall lake. Frikking brutal. That is why I never ever play that course. So long my legs hurt and what makes it worse is the constant swatting while swinging. I probably used a whole bottle of bug spray.

What we need is some sort of five year plan to destroy all mosquitoes.

Was scrambling near Field last week and they were even up over 3,000 meters.....unless they followed us up the mountain can't see why they would be up there.

Got eaten up at the Edworthy off-leash park. Odd too, as I got over 20 bites whilst the old lady had but 1.

Its disgusting the amount of skeeters that were there; I also ended up with 3 on my face (first time for that).

Ive been forced to turn back from walking my dog in Copperfield due to the mosquitoes at that pond/water retention/storm sewer/sludge bucket thing. They're brutal. Not all that big, but attack in waves.

They are bad this year, Glad my bitching about is validated. My personal god send? Vinegar, I put it on a Q-Tip or something and hold it on the bite for a minute... its gone and no longer itches.

That's the worst.

We just came back from a family reunion and my son has tons. the worst is a huge one right on his knee. Every time he crawls around for a bit he comes back and his knee looks like he has been scratching for an hour.

Probably 150 + bites in that 3 days. Massive packs everywhere.

The only time they didn't come out was when it got too hot.

Sure was, and it was absolutely freakin brutal, though oddly they also didn't seem to be around after 1:00am (as we found out playing some late night tippy cup).

I was nearly exsanguinated cutting my grass yesterday in the malarial swamp that is my backyard these days. Haven't seen as many dragonflies as I usually do, wonder why?

I think it's the poor weather. They finally showed up in my backyard, but they're pretty small. I haven't seen any huge ones yet this year.

If you could breed dragonflies and release them near your house, they'd start eating the mosquitoes.

Probably because of the rain then hot/dry periods we are experiencing this summer. Perfect mosquito breeding conditions.

Plus, I suspect the city isn't doing as much spraying as they did in the past.... environmental reasons and so forth.

I used to work for Alpine Helicopters and we would get the city contract to regularly spray all the outlying wet areas around the city for mosquito control and extermination. I don't know if they are doing that anymore. The chemical we would spray was pretty potent and it had a tendency to drift with the wind.
