I got spanked by the wooden spoon from mom until I was big enough to make the mistake of laughing when she spanked me........dad took over the duties from there, which included the belt and the cowboy boot right in the a$$....
I almost got the strap at school...............close but no cigar as they say.

I am all for spanking. I got swatted on the butt when I needed it. Anyone think a 2 year old is sitting and reflecting on why he/she is sitting in a time out? We get complimented on our3 year olds behaviour all the time, and I can count the number of times she needed a light swat on one hand, and I dont think she ever had a time out.

Positive reinforcement usually works the best for us.

My sisters boy (same age..3) just a terror. Her husband seems to feel bad for having to put any boundarys on the kid. Its been the cause of some good family fighting

Am i the only one that wasn't spanked? I was always given the "I'm very disappointed" which I've always found to be just emotionally devastating. My parents never even really yelled at me. All discipline was very calm and immediate.

I remeber when I outgrew spanking.... then I got groundings.

I remember getting grounded for something, and asking for a spank instead.

I'm all for it!
I've got three kids, and it's my belief that the walk and the anticipation is far more effective than the spanking.

Usually when I send the kid to their room I'll wait for about 10 minutes before I spank them. It gives me time to cool off, and it increases their dread of what's going to happen. I find that I don't have to smack them all that often at all.

I'm really looking forward to when my boys are a few years older so that I can employ the physical labour tactic.

My favourite physical labour story is when this one kid egged our house, but dad saw who did it and told the kid's dad. The kid's dad sent the kid to our house to clean the entire exterior of the house. This was around October and it was pretty cold. The kid did a really good job, and when the kid's dad came by to check with my dad, my dad said he was impressed with the work. The kid's dad studied the house for a minute and decided it wasn't good enough. Sent the kid back to redo it. I don't think that kid ever egged another house.

Just think of all the horror stories our kids will be reminiscing about when they're old.

"Kids have it easy these days. Back in my day, my parents would give me a stern talking to! There was no where to hide! And man were we scared of those."

I remember my parents getting called to the school for a meeting after a really cool prank involving bunson burners and capped test tubes filled with dyed water went really wrong.

The Principle recommended corporal punishment for me (the el strappo). My dad looked at him and simply said "I got this" and I got the afternoon off from school. Of course my dad was much more efficient then any principle could be.

I remember the blood draining from my face when he told me to go to the car.

Don't get me wrong, the old man wasn't some nasty mean ogre who enjoyed keeping me in line.

He was very no nonsense, extremely firm, somewhat fair(My sisters never got the same kind of punishment as me, they got groundings) and had a quick temper. But as he said to me years later "Someone had to give you a understanding of right and wrong and the consequences of your sh%tty decisions. I was your dad, not your friend"

Then I punched him in the face and threw him out the window.

Take that dad.

I'll take this as more concrete proof than any study any day.
