I heard (from a variety) most of the action happens on the 15th.

I also read a piece comparing Suncor (post merger) with Encana. Both companies have similar market caps. Encana has 8000 employess. Suncor (post merger) has 14,000. I may have the numbers slightly off, and the companies are similar at best, but it was interesting comparison none the less.

Suncor says to cut 1,000 staff after takeover
http://www.reuters.com/article/rbssE...12400720090903

"Suncor has announced that there will be a total of about 1000 jobs lost from the merger with Petro-Canada. So this is not quite as high as some people have anticipated. A friend works there and she said they got the news from a company wide email. Most of the 1000 have already been let go."

Well, I never did end up hearing anything on thursday last week. They did the layoffs in the morning and then nothing the rest of the day. I went out of town friday morning and now I'm back. I'm 100% sure I'll hear something tomorrow.

From what I've heard it looks like the remaining people in my group have been getting transition roles. They range anywhere from 4 to 10 months and then you're done. I'm hoping to get a 10 month transition and then a nice payout at the end.

What exactly is a transition role? Transition from employment to unemployment?

I thought it was supposed to be all sorted out by mid-september, so hopefully not too much longer until everyone knows for sure. Hope it all works out for you! I'm on leave so I won't be finding out for sure if I have a job or not until next year when I try to come back.

Yup, that's exactly it. At least I would know an end date so I can plan for my next job though.

Through a 3rd party I can also confirm someone with 2 years at PC got 2 months - and this was a senior finance person. Hardly the 60% of salaries many of them were hoping for.

I've been at Petro 2 years and I got 2 1/2 months, plus I'm on transition til Nov. 6th so at least I have some time to look for another job.
